Jordana and Jacob Get Married in Playa del Carmen!

Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen was delighted to welcome a beautiful couple, Jordana and Jacob, as they declared their forever love before their closest friends and family. Accompanied by their adorable little baby Callahan looking dapper in a fashionable hat and suspenders, Jordana and Jacob tied the knot in a gorgeous celebration of amor. We are so happy they chose to get married in Playa del Carmen, their wedding day of soft blush colors, simply elegant touches and a great party with mariachi was such a joy!

Why choose Mexico for your wedding? Getting married in Playa del Carmen in times of covid

We asked Jordana to share some of her thoughts on her Playa del Carmen wedding at Villa la Joya, here is what she had to say:

“Our original plan was to have a big wedding at a hotel where we live in Seattle, but at the time we were trying to plan everything, COVID was still a huge concern and the restrictions for big events were pretty strict. We decided doing it in Mexico would take some of the stress away since we knew we would have less guests and COVID restrictions wouldn't be as big of an issue. We also love to travel and we thought it would be so fun to go on vacation with our closest friends and family.”

Why choose to get married in Playa del Carmen at Villa la Joya?

We know that choosing a location for a destination wedding is a big decision, how did you find Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen?

“After we decided on Mexico, we had no idea what part of Mexico we wanted to go to or where we wanted to have the wedding. We spent hours on Instagram typing in "Weddings in Mexico" and every picture I clicked on that caught my eye just so happened to be at Villa la Joya. I instantly fell in love. Getting married at Villa la Joya is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life!”

Favorite part of getting married in Playa del Carmen at Villa la Joya?

Every bride has a favorite wedding moment, what was yours?

“Ooo this is a tough one. I think my favorite moment is our first look. It was so special, just the two of us (and the photographers of course). But it was filled with so much love and emotion. My other favorite moment from the day was seeing my parents dancing and enjoying themselves. They paid for the entire wedding and have been my biggest fans my whole life, always making my dreams come true. To see them so happy and having so much fun really made my heart so full.”

Did you enjoy any pre-wedding activities in Playa del Carmen?

Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya have so much to offer for pre-wedding activities, did you share any special time with your loved ones?

“Our entire wedding group stayed at Paradisus in Playa del Carmen and they provided us with a complimentary Welcome Party with drinks and appetizers once all of our guests had arrived. The night before the wedding we had our rehearsal dinner there as well.”

Best advice for brides getting married in Playa del Carmen at Villa la Joya?

Private Villa Wedding in Mexico :: Brianna and Michael

This gorgeous private villa wedding in Mexico was full of light and love and pretty details. Brianna and Michael tied the knot in a family affair and enjoyed an extended vacation with all their loved ones in Playa del Carmen. We loved hosting this Villa la Joya wedding, you must check out all the photos by Moni & Adri Photography, so much amor!

We love to travel and that’s why we decided to have a destination wedding. We had gone to Mexico for vacation and loved escaping the cold New Jersey weather during the winter and decided to have our wedding in December in Mexico. Our original plan was to have it on the resort but when we talked to our amazing wedding planner Kristee Stair from Fresa Weddings she showed us all the possibilities we could have at an off-site location. She had us check out Villa la Joya and my mouth dropped when I saw the pictures. I knew I needed to have my wedding there. - Bride Brianna

Emotional Wedding Moments: Tears, laughter and joy

The most emotional part of my wedding was not having my mom there who passed away. Kristee made sure to incorporate my mom into the ceremony by placing flowers on her chair as well as a picture and sign. It really made me feel like she was a part of my big day.

Weddings are emotional, trust us, we know, we always carry tissues on wedding days. Brianna made her dearly departed mother part of the ceremony, a truly moving tribute. Tears of joy, lots of laughs, the speeches during the wedding reception at Villa la Joya were a testament to the incredible connection Brianna and Michael have with their loved ones.

Fun and fireworks on the dance floor at Brianna and Michael’s private villa wedding in Mexico

We wanted our guests to have a great time so we planned some surprises for them. We had a mariachi band as well as fireworks that we kept a secret from our guests. We had a week full of events for our guests which I think increased the quality time we had with them. We had a welcome party for our guests at our hotel, we did a sunset boat party, and a rehearsal dinner on the beach with everyone.

You can tell by the wedding photos that EVERYONE had a great time, the smiles and great energy shine through. A wedding reception in Mexico surely must include mariachis and a whole lot of boogie oogie woogie. The dance floor was jumping and the sky was alight with the surprise fireworks, a spectacular celebration of love!

We are so happy to have been a part of Brianna and Michael’s private villa wedding in Mexico. Villa la Joya thanks you both and all your guests for a wonderful day, we adored every moment. We wish Brianna and Michael a lifetime of joy and happiness together.

Big thanks to our Playa del Carmen Wedding Vendors!

Mexico Destination Wedding: Mariell and Louis

Mexico Destination Wedding: Mariell and Louis

Mexico Destination Wedding: Mariell and Louis Get Married at Villa la Joya!

Villa la Joya was everything we had ever dreamed of. A venue where you could bask in the elegance of an extravagant mansion while listening to the waves of the Caribbean Sea and dancing under the Mexican moonlight. It had everything a bride and groom could want and was guaranteed to be the perfect backdrop for the most fun party of your life.” - Mariell and Louis

The Mexico destination wedding of Mariell and Louis was a magnificent event joining these love birds in matrimony forever and ever. This adorable couple chose to get married at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen and we are so glad to have hosted their big day. Both Mariell and Louis are life-long lovers of the ocean so a beach wedding in the Riviera Maya was the obvious choice to unite their families for a joyous celebration of love.

Catholic Wedding Ceremony in Playa del Carmen

“As a Catholic couple, the last piece of the puzzle was finding a place for our religious ceremony. Even though we had a great symbolic ceremony planned for our time at the Villa, we knew that we first wanted to be married in the church before the party got started. In consultation with our wedding planners, we were able to get in touch with the local archdiocese, and set up an intimate celebration at the chapel on 5th Ave in downtown Playa del Carmen.”

Getting married at Villa la Joya means you get stunning ocean views and swaying palms plus the convenience of the lovely city of Playa del Carmen. Many of our Catholic brides and grooms choose a religious ceremony in the iconic church on 5th Avenue, the “Chapel of Nuestra Señora del Carmen”. Mariell and Louis shared an intimate and meaningful Catholic wedding ceremony in Playa del Carmen in this sacred space and then had a second ceremony at the grand entrance of Villa La Joya, laying the foundation for a blessed life together.

Mexico Destination Wedding Reception at Villa la Joya: Magical Moments of Love

Planning a wedding is notoriously complicated, not to mention when it takes place during a historic global pandemic. Nevertheless, with the help of our great wedding planners, we were able to seamlessly navigate the entire process, and specify every last detail to make sure our guests had the most incredible experience. From the crystal-clear dance floor over the gorgeous pool to the mariachi performance on the steps on the venue's side yard, our wedding experience was perfectly customized to fit our vision of the event. The team at Villa la Joya made it easy on us, and they walked us through everything we needed on our special day.

We had such a great time hosting the Mexico destination wedding of Mariell and Louis! Every detail was carefully thought out to be a perfect representation of the couple in love and it could not have been a more ideal day. Beautiful from start to finish, the flowers, the dress, the cake and the love and support of family and friends made this an unforgettable event for all. We send our biggest thanks to Mariell and Louis for choosing to get married at Villa la Joya and we wish you both the most extraordinary life together full of happiness and peace and love!

As always, we couldn’t have done it without these fantastic Playa del Carmen wedding vendors, mega gracias to all! (And remember folks, no vendor fees at Villa la Joya!)

Jasmin & Steven’s Dreamy Riviera Maya Wedding

Jasmin & Steven’s Dreamy Riviera Maya Wedding

Jasmin & Steven’s Dreamy Riviera Maya Wedding

“I have wanted my wedding to be in Mexico since I was 15 years old...and fortunately for me, my dream came true.” - Jasmin

A Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya was a dream come true for gorgeous bride Jasmin and her handsome groom Steven. We were so pleased to welcome the families and friends of this lovely couple for a simply elegant and intimate wedding at Villa la Joya. This was a family-friendly wedding with kids, we LOVE watching all the generations celebrate love together!

Looking at the wedding gallery, you may think you are seeing photos right out of a bridal magazine, Jasmin and Steven are a picture-perfect couple! Jasmin wore a stunning bridal gown by Pronovias, simple, elegant, and traditional, breathtaking. Groom Steven wore a sharp formal suit and his dark good looks next to Jasmin’s blonde beauty, wow, knockout. The kids in formal suits and an elegant princess dress were adorable, this was a fashionable bunch!

Elegance, Tradition and Delightful Details: A Private Villa Riviera Maya Wedding

The theme of this wedding was definitely “simple elegance”. Traditional style with a simple color palette of soft pinks, blush, and white, all with a backdrop of the blues of the Mexican Caribbean Sea and sky and the greens of the swaying palm trees. The flowers from Cherry Blossom created a magical look for the gardens of Villa la Joya and the striking bouquets and table settings.

We asked bride Jasmin what made the couple decide on a Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya:

“I am a bit shy and always wanted a private venue for my wedding. I only wanted our loved ones to be present. Villa La Joya is not only just a beautiful and elegant setting, it's also PRIVATE, and having our loved ones together on a private beach was exactly what we were looking for. We also loved the idea of being creative and customizing everything about the wedding from decor to layout, music, lights, etc.”

Riviera Maya Wedding Reception: Dancing the Night Away

With toasts and laughs and a delicious dinner catered by Gourmet Soberanis, the Riviera Maya wedding reception of Jasmin and Steven was a great party! The cake with beautiful cascading sugar roses was out of this world, an incredible creation by Pasteleria La Migaja. DJ Uno Audio had everyone on the dance floor, grooving to the tunes and we even saw a little breakdancing!

When we asked Jasmin if she had any advice for future Riviera Maya wedding brides, here is what she shared with us:

“Enjoy every single moment during the planning process. Don't stress about the small things. Guests will be blown away simply by being in a beautiful setting. Also, don't stress about making it perfect. As long as your partner and loved ones are there, everything else will fall into place.”

We extend our biggest congratulations and warmest wishes for Jasmin and Steven and their happy future together. Thank you for choosing Villa la Joya for your Riviera Maya wedding, we were honored and delighted to welcome you to our home.

Getting Married in Mexico: Haley and Colten’s Playa del Carmen Wedding

Getting married in Mexico? The Playa del Carmen wedding of Haley and Colten will inspire you with love, magic and romance! This incredible couple from Canada tied the knot at Villa la Joya with a small group of loved ones and an intimate wedding full of emotion and beautiful details. Be sure to check out all the photos of this Playa del Carmen wedding, they are simply gorgeous work from Fine Art Photography Studio!

We asked Haley to share her love story with us and tell us about her experience in getting married in Mexico. Here’s what she kindly shared with us:

How We Met: A Love Story with a Delightful Happily Ever After

Haley and Colten met in 2008 at a bar in Edmonton. The two were not introduced by anyone, they actually just locked eyes and walked right up to each other which was unusual for both of them to do. The two only had a brief conversation but both admit feeling an undeniable connection and imprint left on their hearts after that night. Haley vividly remembers saying to her friend “I’m going to marry that guy one day”, not knowing this would be a future reality. It wasn’t good timing for the two to date so neither of them pursued anything, but over the next few years they would lock eyes all over again, walk right up to each other, have a brief conversation, and go their separate ways again, and again. With each run in the two had, those imprints on their hearts would deepen further.

Eventually, in late March of 2012, Colten hinted to Haley that he was single, so Haley responded "well, are you taking me for a drink then?".

So they lined up a date to go for drinks where they had hours of endless conversation and laughs. The two took their relationship slow and really took the time to learn what makes the other person smile, what makes them laugh, and how to best support them when life is less than simple. After 9.5 amazing years of dating, the two have tied the knot!

Why Did You Choose to Get Married in Mexico?

Mexico was actually our first ever trip together and it was the trip that really solidified both of our feelings. We were in love before but that trip completely magnified everything.

We have traveled to Mexico 1-2 times a year ever since and always have a blast together. So it really felt like a no-brainer for us to choose it as our wedding destination and we're so happy we did.

Why Did you Choose a Villa La Joya Playa del Carmen Wedding?

Colten has always wanted a warm destination wedding so we obviously chose Mexico, but I have always wanted a place with beautiful architecture so I didn't really want to get married on the beach. We researched different venues but nothing was really what I was looking for initially. Our wedding planner Monica then told us she knows of a beautiful location that she thought I would love called Villa La Joya. We looked it up and I said yes in a matter of seconds! Monica had never planned a wedding there at the time but was hoping to one day, so we were all so happy she knew about this place!

Favorite moment of your wedding day at Villa la Joya?

Both of us agree that our ceremony was our most favourite (although terrifying) moment of our wedding day. Neither of us like attention so we both had some fears standing up there in front of everyone. But we both agree that the moment the ceremony began, the nerves were replaced with the most intense emotions.

It was the most amazing moment of both of our lives and definitely the highlight. Our vows to each other were also major highlights to each of us.

But once the speeches were done it was right into having fun and celebrating on the dance floor with our family and friends, it was such a fun and memorable night!

Things we would have done differently: Getting married in Mexico tips

We wish we would have had our wedding ceremony 1-2 hours earlier- It was November, so the sun goes down pretty early. We wanted our photos done at 'golden hour' so we opted to have our ceremony start around 4:15 but it didn't actually start until around 4:45 because we were running a bit late.

After our family photos were done, we kind of had to rush the photos of just us two before we lost sunlight. It wasn't a big deal, but if we could go back we would have started our wedding at 2:30-3pm because we didn't get everything we would have liked to have photographed, but we do love what we were able to achieve! The photos are gorgeous!

Any advice for brides getting married in Mexico?

I would have booked hair and makeup earlier so that I had more time to unwind after getting ready prior to the ceremony. I was really rushed and felt a bit frantic so I didn't bother with putting my necklace or veil on lol!  I recommend having some time to relax before walking down the aisle. It's better to have too much time than not enough when it comes to your wedding.  Aside from those things, we wouldn't have changed anything else! It was such a beautiful day.

Mega huge thanks and muchas gracias to Haley and Colten for inviting us to host your Playa del Carmen wedding at Villa la Joya! It was a great pleasure to meet you both and witness the waves of love that surround you. Getting married in Mexico was obviously the best choice for you and yours and we are so happy to have been a part of your big day.
