Unique Playa del Carmen Wedding Ideas: Personal Touches for Unforgettable Villa la Joya Nuptials

All Playa del Carmen weddings are NOT the same when you choose a private venue like Villa la Joya. We know that our brides and grooms do not want the “cookie-cutter weddings” you’ll find at the big resorts. A Villa la Joya wedding is unique from the start, never the same wedding twice! Our “no vendor fee” policy makes personalizing your Playa del Carmen wedding dreams come true. If you can imagine it, we can make it happen.

Here are some of the fabulous ideas from our Villa la Joya album to personalize your Playa del Carmen wedding.

Meaningful Wedding Details: Carry a Little Piece of Your Heart in a Photo Charm. We know that unfortunately, not everyone you love will be able to attend your destination wedding. Carry them with you in your heart and make them a part of your day with a photo charm. These pretty little details may be part of your bouquet or tucked away in your jacket just for you as a reminder of their love.

A Refreshing Take on Wedding Reception Seating Cards! You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up, find your name and your table number on these adorable personalized coconuts. This is a very Mexican Caribbean way to rehydrate and direct your guests to their seats at your Villa la Joya wedding reception.

Unique Destination Wedding Favors: A Taste of Mexico. A special blend of organic coffee from Mexico in a personalized tin is one of our favorite Villa la Joya wedding favor ideas. Our amazing villa manager Irma brings us a delicious taste of Mexico from her family of organic coffee producers. Personalized plus, your guests will go home with a truly unique way to remember your wedding with each tasty cup.

Should We Do a First Look?

Should We Do a First Look?

Destination Wedding Planning: Should We Do a First Look?

Your destination wedding is fast approaching, you’ve booked Villa la Joya as the perfect Playa del Carmen wedding venue, the caterers and DJ are set, and we’re getting down to the nitty gritty of the schedule for your big day. Your destination wedding photographer is going to ask if you would like to do a “first look”, a special moment before the ceremony for The Big Reveal of your wedding finery.

Should you do a first look? Well, that’s completely up to you of course but we highly recommend it! This is an opportunity to take a breath and relax before the ceremony, feel the love of your bridal party, family and partner and capture some authentic moments of joy in photographs you will treasure forever. While some couples choose to stick to the “tradition” of not seeing each other before walking down the aisle, most of our guests embrace the idea of the “first look” and we are delighted to share some of these gorgeous moments with you.

How to Do a First Look at Your Villa la Joya Destination Wedding

Capturing the emotions of your wedding day is the most important job of your Playa del Carmen wedding photographer, more than just the decor and details, it’s the LOVE that you see shining through in your photos that you want to remember forever. A “first look” with the father of the bride is often one of the most emotional moments of the day and some of our favorite wedding photos ever are between a bride and her daddy moments before the ceremony. Have your tissues ready, somebody’s going to cry!

The “first look” between a couple on their wedding day is simply priceless and the variations on the theme are endless. The stunning staircase at Villa la Joya makes a perfect backdrop for a grand bridal entrance and reveal. Our balconies with their columns and incredible views of the sea and garden are a private place to just BE with your love before the craziness of the day. The lush gardens with their natural beauty and peace bring you a chance to embrace, share private words or exchange a special gift before the ceremony.

You have the freedom to choose what you do with this time and if comedy and a sense of humor are what brought you together, a little innocent pranking and joking around are definitely in order, what fun, what laughs, what a great way to relieve stress before the ceremony! Even the most elegant weddings can have a playful side.

Destination Wedding First Looks at Villa la Joya Bring Us Joy!

Your destination wedding photos tell the story of your day, the beauty, the details and the emotions of it all. The “First Looks'' are authentic moments, real-life love reactions that MUST be captured in photos. These are the feelings we remember, they bring us such joy! Ask us for suggestions on where to get the best first look photos at Villa la Joya or tell us your dream and we will do all we can to make it happen. We’ll be delighted to recommend the best Playa del Carmen wedding photographers for YOUR personal style and remember, there are no vendor fees at Villa la Joya!

Riviera Maya Wedding at Villa la Joya : Veronika and Max

The Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya of Veronika and Max was a beautiful day full of bright smiles and the love and laughter of friends and family. Bride and groom are best friends and travel bloggers and we were so happy they chose Villa la Joya to host their destination wedding in Mexico. Travel bloggers KNOW their stuff and research destinations in minute detail, thanks for choosing a Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya.

Working together with Paradise Weddings & Events and some of our favorite Riviera Maya wedding vendors, the setup was divine boho eleganza and oh-so-pretty. Soft blush flowers and decorations, flowy plants, and a stunning circular arch, Cherry Blossom Flowers set an incredible scene in the garden for the wedding ceremony. A darling little flower girl made everyone smile but it was the bride who stole the show with her stunning natural beauty accentuated with hair and makeup by Sandra Carolina.

Villa la Joya Riviera Maya Wedding Reception Good Vibes

As we look through the photos of Veronika and Max at their wedding, we see such a light around this couple. Veronika’s smile glows and lights up the event, with calm and cool Max by her side, obviously enamored and in love. Their family and friends shared their love in moving and funny speeches and the mariachis got the party rolling.

When a couple is meant to be, they just can’t hide it and Veronika and Max are so clearly in love that their Riviera Maya wedding was overflowing with amor and good vibes. The cutting of the cake by Pasteleria La Migaja let the couple show their fun and sweet side and everyone loved the churro cart by Los Pockets.

Riviera Maya Wedding at Villa la Joya, Gratitude and Best Wishes to Veronika and Max

We had such fun at this event and we thank Veronika and Max for choosing a Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya. We wish you both a lifetime of joy and happiness, may you travel the world together forever and ever.

Playa del Carmen Wedding at Villa la Joya - Caroline & Adam

The Playa del Carmen wedding at Villa la Joya of Caroline and Adam is a picture-perfect example of a FUN destination wedding full of love and good energy. We just loved hosting this dynamic couple and their guests, the smiles were bright and Caroline and Adam let their love and their fun side shine through.

Right from the get-go, we knew this was going to be a great day. The getting ready session with Caroline was incredible, her dress was a STUNNING confection of form-fitting lace and a mermaid train. Playa del Carmen makeup artist Zoe Elizabeth accentuated Caroline’s beauty with soft, flowing hair and a natural makeup look that glowed. Groom Adam looked like he walked right out of the pages of a magazine, super handsome and a little cheeky with the no socks look.

Trendy and cool destination wedding in Playa del Carmen at Villa la Joya

Caroline was very involved in every detail of the big day, working together with Playa del Carmen wedding planners Dream Weddings Riviera Maya to create a magical event!  Villa la Joya looked just gorge with the soft blush theme and the stunning flowers from Cherry Blossom. The color and texture of the decor was “cozy elegance” and the setup by Planner 1 Events and Kay & Tee made Villa la Joya a comfy home away from home for all. We just LOVED the neon sign over the little sitting area under the shade of the palms, Viva Los Lavenders! And how can you not smile at a donkey dressed in flowers for the photos? FUN.

Family fun for everyone at the Playa del Carmen wedding of Caroline and Adam

This was a day full of laughter and love, it is a pleasure to see kids at a destination wedding, they bring a sense of wonder! The children were such a source of energy and fashion, well, these little ones certainly can work a look. Gourmet Soberanis Playa del Carmen caterers brought their usual deliciousness for a superb celebration dinner. The whole family had a great time, cocktail hour with a cool saxophone player, personalized himalayan salt shot glasses were a unique touch and everyone had their arms up on the dance floor! Bride Caroline took a turn as DJ and really got the party rocking.

Bride and groom Caroline and Adam are just so in love, so into each other, looking at the portraits from their day they just seem to FIT. Relaxed and content, leaning into one another’s arms and looking into each other’s eyes, there is something very special with these beautiful newlyweds. We are honored to have hosted this beautiful Playa del Carmen wedding, we wish Caroline and Adam all the best for a fantastic future and thank them with huge GRACIAS for joining us at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen.

Hottest Destination Wedding Flower Trends for 2021

Hottest Destination Wedding Flower Trends for 2021

Hottest Destination Wedding Flower Trends for 2021

A Villa la Joya wedding is not complete without the gorgeous flowers that bring our gardens

and villa to life with color, aroma and the personal style of YOU, our special guests. Wedding flowers set the scene and the vibe, soft and gentle pastel petals or dynamic brights and stunning floral sculptures, the choice is YOURS and we are always excited to see your plans!

At Villa la Joya, we have NO vendor fees which allows you a little extra in your budget for important things like bouquets and centerpieces. One of our favorite florists in Playa del Carmen is Cherry Blossom and we asked them to share with us their picks for Hottest Destination Wedding Flower Trends for 2021. Get ready for some beautiful inspiration!

Destination Wedding Flower Trends - Sustainable Arrangements

We suggest using plants that can be repotted after the ceremony. “We’re seeing a potential move from complex ‘arranged’ designs using a vast mix of cut, cultivated stems to simply stunning arrangements of one variety of seasonal flower on mass, perhaps planted where possible so that they can live on after the wedding.”

Yellow Wedding Flowers? We Say “I DO!”

Yellow has been one of those love/hate colors for us, florists, for a long time and I think it is a case of doing some research into what is available for the season and finding the right tones.

Yellow has so many wonderful tones in nature that there are shades to suit every season. Not only does it look good as flowers, but the intensity of mustard works so well with rich fabrics like velvet and satin that you can incorporate it into everything from table runners to bridesmaid dresses

Cherry Blossom Florists Playa del Carmen - Always on Trend

“Aisle meadows” are definitely trending for 2021. This creates a way to frame the couple, along with their guests, during the ceremony. But couples are using this as an Instagrammable moment for their guests to take photos with as well.

Destination Wedding Flower Eternity Arches Still Hot for 2021

Eternity arches were definitely having their time in the limelight for 2019 and into 2020. And while those installations are certainly stunning, many couples are requesting options that are even more creative. “Couples have been very open to letting their planners and florists run wild with ceremony concepts”.

Wedding Reception Table Floral Arrangements in 2021

Guests are spending more time seated at the reception table (due to limited dancing), and this change has made the aesthetic of the reception table more of a priority for couples. Some elements can be lush, overgrown centerpieces, candles, and a few unexpected elements mixed in such as fruits, nuts, and books.

They Say the Neon Lights Are Bright - Wedding Decor Hot Trend Alert

Wedding neon signs are all the rage and we’re fully on board with this trend! Not only do neon signs provide some eye-catching and moody lighting, but they’re also a way to make a statement in a big and beautiful way. Neon signs can be focal points in ceremony or reception spaces and can double as DIY photo booth areas (just add props).

Pastel Wedding Flowers Are a Divine New Trend

2019 – 2020 saw a surge in greenery and blush themed weddings. In 2021 pastels are going to be the next big thing. Baby pinks, blue and yellows with a splash of coral, and stationery to match.

Big Gracias to Cherry Blossom Florists Playa del Carmen!!

A huge thanks to the ladies at Cherry Blossom Florists Playa del Carmen for sharing their insights on the hottest destination wedding flower trends for 2021. Cherry Blossom is such a great fit with Villa la Joya and we LOVE having them add their touch of nature and style to our weddings.
