Hottest Destination Wedding Flower Trends for 2021

A Villa la Joya wedding is not complete without the gorgeous flowers that bring our gardens

and villa to life with color, aroma and the personal style of YOU, our special guests. Wedding flowers set the scene and the vibe, soft and gentle pastel petals or dynamic brights and stunning floral sculptures, the choice is YOURS and we are always excited to see your plans!

At Villa la Joya, we have NO vendor fees which allows you a little extra in your budget for important things like bouquets and centerpieces. One of our favorite florists in Playa del Carmen is Cherry Blossom and we asked them to share with us their picks for Hottest Destination Wedding Flower Trends for 2021. Get ready for some beautiful inspiration!

Destination Wedding Flower Trends - Sustainable Arrangements

We suggest using plants that can be repotted after the ceremony. “We’re seeing a potential move from complex ‘arranged’ designs using a vast mix of cut, cultivated stems to simply stunning arrangements of one variety of seasonal flower on mass, perhaps planted where possible so that they can live on after the wedding.”

Yellow Wedding Flowers? We Say “I DO!”

Yellow has been one of those love/hate colors for us, florists, for a long time and I think it is a case of doing some research into what is available for the season and finding the right tones.

Yellow has so many wonderful tones in nature that there are shades to suit every season. Not only does it look good as flowers, but the intensity of mustard works so well with rich fabrics like velvet and satin that you can incorporate it into everything from table runners to bridesmaid dresses

Cherry Blossom Florists Playa del Carmen - Always on Trend

“Aisle meadows” are definitely trending for 2021. This creates a way to frame the couple, along with their guests, during the ceremony. But couples are using this as an Instagrammable moment for their guests to take photos with as well.

Destination Wedding Flower Eternity Arches Still Hot for 2021

Eternity arches were definitely having their time in the limelight for 2019 and into 2020. And while those installations are certainly stunning, many couples are requesting options that are even more creative. “Couples have been very open to letting their planners and florists run wild with ceremony concepts”.

Wedding Reception Table Floral Arrangements in 2021

Guests are spending more time seated at the reception table (due to limited dancing), and this change has made the aesthetic of the reception table more of a priority for couples. Some elements can be lush, overgrown centerpieces, candles, and a few unexpected elements mixed in such as fruits, nuts, and books.

They Say the Neon Lights Are Bright - Wedding Decor Hot Trend Alert

Wedding neon signs are all the rage and we’re fully on board with this trend! Not only do neon signs provide some eye-catching and moody lighting, but they’re also a way to make a statement in a big and beautiful way. Neon signs can be focal points in ceremony or reception spaces and can double as DIY photo booth areas (just add props).

Pastel Wedding Flowers Are a Divine New Trend

2019 – 2020 saw a surge in greenery and blush themed weddings. In 2021 pastels are going to be the next big thing. Baby pinks, blue and yellows with a splash of coral, and stationery to match.

Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen Entryway: A Grand Welcome

Upon arriving at Villa la Joya, your guests will be welcomed by an elegant entryway with a sprawling staircase, massive arched passageway and the lush green of exotic plants and soaring palm trees. This main entrance is one of our favorite settings for bridal party portraits, a great space for the bride to shine on her own or to gather everyone together for a magnificent group shot.

The Villa la Joya Fountain: Make a Wish for Joy, Health, and Happiness

The Villa la Joya fountain sits in a cozy little niche outdoors, bubbling quietly in the area where many brides wait before making their big entrance to their garden ceremony. The water signifies cleansing, purification and the fresh start the couple will enjoy together as newlyweds. The fountain is a favored place for intimate couple’s portraits and the afternoon light blesses this spot with warmth and love.

Villa la Joya Marble Staircase, Sweeping Marble, Elegance and Light

One of the architectural delights of Villa la Joya is the sweeping interior marble staircase that is truly majestic and worthy of photos all on its own. You’ll feel like royalty as you float down to meet your love, the warmth of the marble offset by the vintage decor setting a scene like something out of a fairy tale. Your happily ever after starts right here.

Destination Wedding Trends in Fashion and Decor at Villa la Joya

Shambra and Matthew’s Villa la Joya wedding was SO PRETTY, soft and pink and elegant with a warm and welcoming feel. Bride Shambra was just glowing, her natural beauty and blonde good looks were enhanced by makeup artist Zoe Elizabeth and echoed in her three daughters. The getting ready time with the girls was such fun in their matching floral robes, special moments shared that they will never forget. With their lacy white dresses next to mom’s gorgeous gown they made the prettiest little bridal party ever. Matthew and his son were looking sharp in blue suits to round out the gorgeous family fashions.

Pink and white flowers flowing throughout the garden, a stunning arch and an aisle lined in flower petals, Vanessa Jaimes floral design definitely knows how to set a romantic scene. The table runner of flowers just floating over the edge really knocked us out and was perfect for the warm vibe of this intimate Villa la Joya wedding reception.

The wedding reception dinner of surf and turf was catered by Gourmet Soberanis, a delicious celebration of cuisine under the fairy lights in the garden. Pasteleria Migaja created the two incredible wedding cakes, one traditional tiered cake and one FUN cake in the shape of a bottle of the couple’s favorite tequila, Don Julio. With a lot of dancing, laughs and toasts, this was a wonderful destination wedding at Villa la Joya.

Jewel Tone Bridesmaid Dresses: Destination Wedding Trends in Elegance and Sophistication

Jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue and ruby red bring a regal and rich feel to destination wedding trends and we just LOVE the contrast with the white columns and arches of a Villa la Joya wedding. Elegance and sophistication, the deeply saturated colors will flatter all your bridesmaids and they will feel like royalty as they walk down the aisle. Accessorize with simple silver or gold jewelry and shoes for a touch of sparkle.

Bridesmaid Trends: Adjustable Maxi Dresses Are Flattering and Fun

Destination wedding trends like adjustable maxi dresses make packing easy and show off all the right curves. The convertible tops can be worn in a variety of ways, giving your bridesmaids choices like halter or cap sleeve or more elaborate ways of braiding the straps and the sash at the waistline. Maxi dresses just flow and are super comfortable and fresh for your girls, great for hot destination beach weddings.

The bridesmaids at Shane and Nicole’s Villa la Joya wedding glowed in blush colored maxi dresses which set off their dark hair and beautiful skin tones. All the curves in all the right places, feminine and elegant and romantic.

Mismatched Bridesmaids’ Dresses, Let The Personality of Your Bridal Party Shine!

One of our favorite destination wedding trends is mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses. Invite your bridesmaids to be part of the dress selection, give them a theme of colors, textures and silhouettes and create a palette that can work for everyone. You may choose to have all the same fabric but totally different designs or mix up colors and prints for an exciting take on your theme with the personality of your ladies.
