Alexis & Michael's Villa la Joya Wedding

Rich seasonal color, a stunning ceremony and one incredible party

Just before Alexis and Michael's ceremony, rain swept across Villa la Joya.

Within minutes, Adriana and the Villa Planners team reimagined the ceremony layout, turning the villa itself into the backdrop for the vows. Looking through the photographs, you would never guess it hadn't been the original plan.

Once the ceremony began, everything else faded into the background. Surrounded by family, extraordinary florals and the people they loved most, Alexis and Michael's wedding became exactly what they had hoped for.

Alexis wore a striking satin ballgown with a structured corset bodice finished with delicate pearl draping. The clean silhouette, dramatic train and cathedral veil gave the look a classic feel, while her bouquet introduced the rich palette that carried through the celebration.

Deep burgundy, wine, ivory and soft green blooms added warmth and texture against the white gown.

Michael chose a classic black tuxedo with a black bow tie, while his groomsmen matched in black. The bridesmaids wore flowing burgundy gowns that echoed the floral palette beautifully, bringing depth and richness to the ceremony.

A ceremony framed by Villa la Joya

Most ceremonies at Villa la Joya look toward the Caribbean … Alexis and Michael's looked toward the villa instead.

The white façade, graceful arches and wrought-iron lanterns created a dramatic backdrop, while Cherry Blossom filled the ceremony space with hydrangeas, cascading greenery and rich burgundy florals that softened the architecture without hiding it.

When Alexis walked down the aisle, the setting felt intimate and welcoming, drawing every eye toward the couple.

Later, Alexis shared that what had briefly felt like a nightmare became "nothing short of a dream." Looking through these photographs, it's hard to imagine the day any other way.

Cocktails, conversation and a chance to breathe

After the ceremony, guests wandered through the gardens with cocktails in hand, catching up with family and friends before dinner.

The signature cocktail menu included mojitos, lychee martinis, Cartagena mules and lemon drops, another personal touch woven into the day.

The pace slowed for a while. Conversations stretched a little longer, hugs lingered and everyone had the chance to take in the view before the celebration shifted into the evening.

Dinner beneath the stars

As daylight faded, guests found a completely different atmosphere waiting for them.

A personalized dance floor stretched across Villa la Joya's iconic pool, framed by two transparent tents glowing softly after sunset.

The sweetheart table overlooked the ocean, wrapped in flowing linens and surrounded by generous arrangements of hydrangeas, cascading greenery and deep burgundy blooms. The flowers seemed to spill naturally across the stone terrace, creating a romantic garden without competing with the view beyond.

Nearby, a vintage-inspired cake finished with delicate piping and bright cherries added a playful touch that perfectly suited the celebration.

The party everyone was waiting for

After dinner, the dance floor filled almost immediately.

The kids claimed their own corner with spins, headstands, and fearless moves while parents and grandparents cheered them on, unmistakably a family celebration. Later, Alexis changed into a sequined reception dress with a dramatic oversized bow, and Michael traded his tuxedo jacket for suspenders, lit a cigar, and settled fully into party mode.

Red fezzes appeared. Tequila shots made the rounds. Nobody showed any interest in slowing down. By the end of the night, shoes had vanished, ties had loosened, and a few brave guests found themselves cooling off in the pool while everyone else laughed from the edge.

The last photographs say it all: friends dancing, swimming, celebrating, wringing every last minute out of a day no one wanted to end.

Classic style, meaningful tradition, and a few great surprises by the Caribbean

Some weddings reveal their personality slowly. Leila and Marc's announced it from the first glance, a crisp black-and-white palette, generous florals, and a sense of humor that turned up in the most unexpected places.

Planned by Mango Weddings, the day held its classic styling and its playful streak in perfect balance, unfolding against the villa's gardens and the Mexican Caribbean sea.

Modern Fashion with a Timeless Feel

Leila's bridal look was quiet and self-assured, the kind that doesn't need to announce itself to hold a room. She wore a fitted Rita Vinieris gown with delicate lace, slender spaghetti straps, and a silhouette that skimmed rather than clung, softened by a long veil that trailed behind her. Her natural styling by Dani Delgado let her own features stay the focus, exactly as she wanted.

Marc met the moment in a classic white dinner jacket, black trousers, and a black bow tie, a clean, confident counterpart to Leila's gown.

And then came the single detail that broke the rules on purpose: Leila's bouquet, brimming with coral, peach, and blush blooms, a deliberate burst of warmth against a day otherwise committed to black and white. It was the kind of choice that tells you a couple knows exactly what they're doing.

A beautiful Jewish Ceremony by the Sea

Guests gathered in the oceanfront gardens for a traditional Jewish ceremony beneath a white chuppah, the Caribbean stretching wide behind it. White roses, hydrangeas, and textured greenery framed the space, while the fabric overhead lifted and settled in the sea breeze. A clean white aisle caught the afternoon light and led every eye toward Leila as she made her entrance.

Surrounded by the people who had traveled to be there, Leila and Marc moved through their vows with tradition, emotion, and a few happy tears, the sea keeping quiet witness behind them.

Cocktail Hour with a few unique Surprises

Once the ceremony ended, the celebration loosened into cocktail hour. The couple's signature drinks set the tone: smoked cocktails named after their dogs, finished tableside with a curl of aromatic smoke that gave the whole hour a touch of theater. Personal and a little dramatic, which suited them.

And then, ambling through the garden as though it had every right to be there, came Frida, the flower-adorned donkey … the kind of surprise that stops conversation mid-sentence and sends everyone reaching for their phones. Live saxophone drifted between the palms, guests settled into the afternoon, and the party found its rhythm well before dinner.

A Black-and-White Reception

The reception committed fully to its black-and-white vision, a palette that reads modern anywhere but felt especially at home against the villa's warm stone and greenery. Gracefully curved tables followed the line of the sea, dressed in crisp white linen, black chairs, candlelight, and generous white florals by Vanessa Jaimes; roses, hydrangeas, and greenery lending softness without ever breaking the monochrome discipline.

At the center of it all sat the detail everyone remembers: a custom dance floor built out over the villa's pool, marked with the couple's initials and crowned by suspended disco balls that threw light across the water as the sky darkened.

Later in the evening, a disco man rolled into the night, dancing around with guests and pouring shots. Nothing about this reception was accidental, and every piece of it felt unmistakably like Leila and Marc.

Dinner, Speeches, and Into the Night

As the sun dropped and the string lights took over, guests gathered for dinner and toasts. A sweetheart table, spilling over with cascading white florals, became the stage for speeches from family and lifelong friends, the kind that draw laughter one minute and quiet the table the next. Candlelight, warm words, and the sound of the sea carried the meal deep into the evening.

When full night arrived, Leila and Marc stepped onto the dance floor over the pool for their first dance. Live saxophone wound through the moment, dry fireworks lit the dark above the water, and the cheering that followed pulled everyone to their feet. The party carried on long into the Riviera Maya night.

Modern style, thoughtful details, and a celebration by the sea

Lauren and Matt already knew Playa del Carmen well before they chose to marry here. They'd visited more than once, and the Riviera Maya had a hold on them long before the wedding was ever planned. After getting engaged in early 2025, returning here for their February wedding felt like the natural next chapter.

Their day leaned into what was already here, the Mediterranean architecture, the oceanfront gardens, the Caribbean itself, and let each part carry the next. Planned by Nancy and Villa Planners, the day balanced contemporary fashion, graceful florals, and details that never asked to be the center of attention. A Modern Bridal Look with Timeless Appeal

Lauren's style caught our attention right away, natural, beautifully tailored, nothing overdone. She wore a Sarah Seven sheath gown with delicate illusion side panels that revealed just a whisper of skin, the clean silhouette softened by a lace-edged veil that moved with her. Her natural makeup by Zoe Elizabeth kept the focus exactly where it belonged: on her.

Matt matched her in a classic black tuxedo, proof, again, that good tailoring never goes out of style.

Their first look on the villa's balcony held the quiet excitement of the moments before "I do." Lauren's veil caught the Caribbean breeze, and Matt's smile said the rest.

The reception carried the same design language.

Long family-style tables curved through the gardens above the Caribbean, dressed in crisp white linen, candlelight, and arrangements of hydrangeas, roses, calla lilies, and textured greenery. The palette stayed fresh and organic, letting the surroundings remain part of the picture.

Every place setting showed care, scalloped dinnerware, crystal glassware, and olive-green velvet ribbons tied around each menu.

Guests gathered around tables designed for lingering conversations, shared meals and celebrating together long after the sun had set.

Family, Laughter, and the People Who Matter

Lauren and Matt spent the day surrounded by the people closest to them, family and friends who traveled to the Riviera Maya to be part of every moment, from the first look to the last dance.

Family portraits beneath the marble arches brought everyone together in striking black attire, a beautiful contrast against the warm stone. Lauren's gown and bouquet naturally drew the eye, though one very stylish little flower girl quietly stole a few hearts of her own.

As the afternoon turned toward sunset, cocktail hour gave everyone a chance to relax and reconnect in the Caribbean breeze before dinner.

The cake carried the same restraint as everything else, sculptural draping finished with a single white calla lily, proof that simplicity can be every bit as striking as something elaborate.

A generous dessert display rounded out the evening, layered with fresh fruit and delicate pastries in the same soft palette that ran through the whole day.

Dancing Well Into the Night

Once dinner wrapped, the dance floor filled fast. Lauren and Matt danced with family and friends beneath the villa lights, and between nearly every song came another embrace, another toast, another reason to stay out there … the joy of the day carrying well into the Riviera Maya night.

Annie & Daniel's Elegant Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya

"We really wanted the beauty of the landscape of the ocean and the amazing Villa to be the highlight of our wedding. We felt that we didn't need to go over the top with decor or flowers, as the Villa was pretty enough with nothing at all."

Finding the right wedding venue turned out to be surprisingly simple for Annie. One search for a private Mexico wedding venue led her to Villa la Joya, and she never felt the need to keep looking.

Mexico had been part of Annie and Daniel's story since the first vacation they took together. When they got engaged, returning to the Riviera Maya felt like the natural next chapter. Working with Cristina Formica and Villa Planners, they built a wedding around exactly what mattered to them: a beautiful setting, real time with family and friends, and personal touches that made every guest feel part of it.

Why Annie Chose Villa la Joya

Finding the right venue turned out to be the easiest decision of the entire planning process.

"Once I Googled 'private Mexico wedding venues' and Villa la Joya came up, I knew it was the perfect place. I stopped my search immediately and booked Villa la Joya on the spot."

Villa la Joya's Mediterranean-inspired architecture, oceanfront gardens, and Caribbean setting already provided everything Annie and Daniel had envisioned. Rather than trying to transform Villa la Joya with elaborate décor, they chose thoughtful details that complemented what was already here.

White florals framed the ceremony. Sage accents appeared throughout the stationery and reception. Every design choice supported the setting rather than competing with it.

Wedding Fashion That Moved with the Riviera Maya Breeze

Annie's gown reflected the same understated approach as the wedding itself. A structured corset bodice, softly draped fabric, a thigh-high slit and a softly flowing veil created effortless movement throughout Villa la Joya's gardens and terraces. Flat sandals proved that comfort and style can go hand in hand during a destination wedding.

Daniel chose a light beige suit with an open-collar white shirt, while the bridesmaids wore soft sage gowns that echoed the wedding palette without drawing attention away from the ceremony or the Caribbean beyond. The groomsmen’s sage shirts completed the bridal party to perfection.

A Ceremony Focused on the Vows

The seaside garden gave Annie and Daniel a tropical setting, and a simple wooden altar dressed with white florals framed the ocean, keeping the focus exactly where they wanted it: on the promises they were making to one another.

Their officiant wasn't just a close friend. He was also there the night Annie and Daniel first met at a Philadelphia bar.

"We had our friend (the same guy who was also at the bar that first day I met Danny) as our officiant, which made the ceremony already feel so special."

When asked about her favorite moment, Annie didn't hesitate.

"Once Danny and I started saying our vows, and what we promised to each other for the rest of our lives, it was by far the best part of the day."

Personal Details Guests Will Never Forget

Guests arrived to personalized welcome bags before discovering signature cocktails inspired by the couple's beloved dog, Blue, and cat, Meems. Their pets appeared throughout the celebration on cocktail napkins, cocktail menus, signage, and stationery, creating a thread running through the whole day.

A custom monogram tied the design together across welcome displays, menus, place settings, and the personalized dance floor, while deep green typography and soft sage accents created a polished visual identity from beginning to end.

One of the biggest laughs of the night came at the reception entrance, when the wedding party carried oversized cutouts of Blue and Meems onto the dance floor ahead of the newlyweds.

A Poolside Reception at Villa la Joya

Cocktail hour overlooking the Caribbean led guests to a reception beside the pool. Long white tables, candlelight, and delicate florals reflected the couple's pared-back philosophy. Florals drifted on the surface of the pool, and the ceremony flowers were repurposed behind the sweetheart table, giving them a second moment.

Personalized menus, place cards, and coordinated paper goods finished each setting, proof that the smallest details often leave the strongest impression.

Dancing, Fireworks and a Joyous Celebration

Dinner was followed by heartfelt toasts before Annie and Daniel stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance beneath the café lights.

Cold spark fountains lit the moment before guests returned to the dance floor, where champagne and tequila, live music and hand-rolled cigars kept the celebration going well into the evening.

A heart-shaped wedding cake added one more personal touch before fireworks burst above the Caribbean as Annie and Daniel shared a kiss overlooking the water.

"Celebrating (and partying late into the night!) with our closest friends and family was the highlight also. Everyone was blown away by the gorgeousness of the venue, the surprise of the fireworks, and how delicious the food and drinks were."

The evening ended with a sparkler exit down Villa la Joya's iconic front staircase, surrounded by the loving people who had traveled to Mexico to celebrate alongside them.

Annie's Advice for Future Destination Brides

Planning a destination wedding comes with its own challenges, and Annie credits much of their experience to having an experienced planner close by.

"Make sure that you have someone who is 'boots on the ground' at the venue who is helping with the planning and is there the day of the wedding. We could not have done anything without the amazing help of our planner, Cristina. She went above and beyond more times than we can count, and it wouldn't have been the same wedding if she wasn't so involved."

She also recommends visiting your venue before the wedding whenever possible.

"It was so helpful to go to Mexico five months before our wedding for all of the tastings and to see the venue in person."

Carolane & Aaron's Jewish Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya

"The venue itself is absolutely breathtaking, timeless architecture, luxurious details, immaculate grounds, and endless photo opportunities at every turn. There's also a condo that mirrors the house's elegance, perfect for getting ready, with the same care and attention to detail throughout." — Carolane

When Carolane and Aaron began planning their destination wedding, they were looking for more than a beautiful venue. They wanted a place where family could gather, traditions could be honored, and every guest would feel part of the celebration.

We were honored that they chose Villa la Joya to host their big day. Planned by Villa Planners and Adriana Hiromoto, their Riviera Maya wedding welcomed family and friends from Israel, Africa, London and Canada for a week that culminated in an oceanfront ceremony rooted in Jewish tradition.

A Week, Not a Day

For Carolane and Aaron, Mexico wasn't simply the backdrop. It was an opportunity to slow everything down.

"We wanted to extend the celebration beyond the wedding day, so we arranged for everyone to stay at a nearby resort for the week. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Instead of the festivities ending after one day, we got a full week of seeing our family and friends every day, sharing meals, spending time together, and simply enjoying having everyone in one place. That extra time together made the whole experience even more special."

It's a pattern we see often at Villa la Joya. Guests arrive as separate travelers and leave as one group. Kids find each other by day two. By the time the ceremony begins, half the room already feels like home.

Warmth First, Design Second

Carolane and Aaron chose Villa la Joya after their first visit, and it wasn't the architecture that closed the deal.

"What really captured us was the warmth of everyone we met. They were welcoming, kind, and genuine from the very beginning, making us feel at home instantly. It was important to us that our wedding felt personal and intimate, and we knew this was a place where we could create that feeling."

That same feeling shaped the design.

An ivory, cream, white and gold palette. A flowing white huppah overlooking the Caribbean. Lush floral arrangements that seemed to grow naturally around the ceremony space rather than overpower it. A custom monogram woven quietly through the stationery, welcome details, and a personalized dance floor.

Nothing shouted. It didn't need to.

Jewish Tradition, Family, and a Beautiful Beginning

Before the ceremony, Carolane and Aaron gathered with their closest family beneath the marble arches and grand staircase to sign the ketubah, the traditional Jewish marriage contract, illustrated with a Tree of Life.

Outside, the ceremony unfolded beneath the huppah, the Caribbean stretching out behind it. Young ring bearers led the processional, followed by two flower girls scattering petals ahead of Carolane's entrance. Aaron broke the glass beneath his foot, and cries of "Mazel Tov!" carried across the garden as everyone celebrated the beginning of their marriage.

The Hora, Then Dinner Beneath the Café Lights

After cocktail hour came one of the most joyful traditions of the day: the hora. Family and friends surrounded Carolane and Aaron and lifted them high on chairs, music and applause filling the garden. Within minutes, the dance floor belonged to everyone.

Dinner followed beneath strands of café lights. Curved serpentine tables wrapped around the pool, dressed with white florals, candlelight, and warm wood chairs — exactly the quiet, composed look the couple had envisioned. Heartfelt speeches and champagne toasts honored both families before the celebration drifted naturally back to the dance floor.

"I wish we could freeze that moment forever."

When we asked Carolane about her favorite memory, she didn't hesitate.

"Hands down, our first look. When he saw me, he became so emotional, and so did I. That moment captured everything: anticipation and pure happiness."

Then she smiled, remembering what happened next.

"And true to Aaron, even in such an emotional moment, he somehow made me laugh. He always brings joy and lightness, even in the most meaningful moments. It was pure happiness, and one of those moments I wish we could freeze in time forever."

Those quiet moments often become the ones couples treasure most.

Into the Night

After dinner, Carolane and Aaron returned to the personalized dance floor for their first dance beneath the café lights. Cold spark fountains marked the beginning of an evening filled with live saxophone, cake cutting, fireworks and a celebration that carried well into the night.

Kids danced beside grandparents. Friends filled the courtyard. Somewhere along the way, Aaron traded his tuxedo jacket for suspenders as the evening settled comfortably into party mode.

It was joyful, relaxed and exactly what the couple had hoped to share with the people they love most.

Carolane's Advice for Future Destination Brides

"Just enjoy the process. Yes, it's stressful and long, but when it's done and you look back, you'll want to start it all over again. Trust your vendors, trust the process, and most importantly, stay present for every moment."
