Stephanie & Bryan’s Black and White Villa La Joya Wedding in the Riviera Maya

Stephanie & Bryan’s Black and White Villa La Joya Wedding in the Riviera Maya

Stephanie & Bryan’s wedding at Villa La Joya was pure timeless glamour on the shores of the Riviera Maya. Planned by the talented team at Fresa Weddings, the celebration embraced the sophistication of the “Old Money” wedding theme, an aesthetic all about understated luxury, classic style, and effortless beauty. From the first look on the oceanfront terrace to the last dance beneath the chandeliers, their day was a stunning balance of formality and warmth.

Bridal Style at a Villa La Joya Wedding

Bride Stephanie was radiant from the moment she stepped into the garden. She wore her hair in soft, loose waves that highlighted her natural glow, paired with a gown that was nothing short of breathtaking, a daring design featuring a thigh-high slit and a structured bustier-style bodice adorned with pearls. Her veil caught the Caribbean sunlight as she shared a first look with Bryan, who was dashing in his white dinner jacket and black tuxedo pants. Adding a touch of tropical ease, Bryan opted for no socks with his polished tuxedo shoes, perfectly suiting the Riviera Maya setting.

Her bridesmaids wore sage gowns in a variety of designs, their bouquets of velvety calla lilies by Luis Salas Floral Experience tying the bridal party into the overall theme with sophisticated texture and style.

It’s a Nice Day for a White Ceremony by the Sea in Cancun

The ceremony design at Villa La Joya was nothing short of grand. Guests were seated on rows of white chairs with a pristine white aisle that led to an altar draped in flowing fabric and crowned with an abundance of white roses and lilies by Luis Salas Floral Experience. The display created a breathtaking focal point where the couple exchanged vows to become husband and wife, forever and ever. Sparkling chandeliers floated above the space, adding a touch of romance to the seaside garden wedding.

The scent of fresh florals mixed with the Caribbean breeze, giving the ceremony a sensory richness you could almost feel through the photos. The sophisticated white theme carried through in every detail, striking in its simplicity and design. And of course, flower girls and ring bearers added heartwarming family charm, bringing smiles to every guest in attendance.

Cocktail Hour in the Villa La Joya Garden

Following the ceremony, guests gathered in Villa La Joya’s garden for a relaxed yet refined cocktail hour. White lounge furniture created a stylish sitting area where friends and family mingled, framed by the villa’s lush greenery and ocean breeze. Charcuterie boards, fresh sushi, and signature cocktails set the tone for the evening, a perfect blend of sophistication and fun that carried seamlessly into the reception.

Reception Design and Décor Ideas at Villa La Joya

As the sun set, the reception space came alive in timeless black, white, and gold. Tables were set with crisp linens, golden flatware, sparkling glassware, and white candles in crystal holders. Lush calla lily arrangements anchored each table, while striking black-and-white script signage tied the theme together.

Above it all, chandeliers shimmered against the night sky, casting a romantic glow over the garden. The sweetheart table mirrored the theme with white florals and a personalized backdrop featuring the couple’s names in flowing script.

First Dance on the Black & White Poolside Dance Floor

One of the evening’s highlights was the black-and-white checkered dance floor built over the villa’s pool. Beneath the chandeliers’ glow, Stephanie and Bryan shared their first dance as husband and wife, romantically swaying with the ocean breeze. Family and friends joined in, filling the dance floor with energy, laughter, and love.

Showstopping Wedding Cake in the Riviera Maya

Created by Pastelería La Migaja, the cake was a true showstopper, three towering tiers dressed in cascading white roses. Almost too beautiful to cut, it stood as both a sweet finale and a work of art within the reception design. When the couple shared the cake-cutting tradition, it was a moment of cheers, smiles, and happy anticipation.

Entertainment and Family Fun at Villa La Joya

Guests enjoyed a cigar-rolling station that added a touch of local flavor and sophistication. The dance floor stayed packed, with children and adults alike joining in on the fun. From family hugs to laughter that echoed through the garden, the night was filled with warmth and human connection and joy.

This Riviera Maya wedding was cohesive from start to finish — from the black-and-white theme to the abundance of white florals, the sage bridesmaids’ gowns, and the glittering chandeliers. But more than its refined design, it was the love and joy shared between Stephanie, Bryan, and their families that made it truly unforgettable.

Congratulations to the Couple

To Stephanie & Bryan, we thank you for choosing Villa La Joya as the backdrop for your love story. We wish you a lifetime filled with the same joy, warmth, and laughter that surrounded you on your wedding day in Mexico.

Ashley & Terence’s Dream Wedding at Villa la Joya Riviera Maya

Ashley & Terence’s Dream Wedding at Villa la Joya Riviera Maya

A Private Villa Wedding in Mexico by the Sea

Every love story at Villa la Joya unfolds in its own way — and Ashley & Terence’s was nothing short of magical. For their destination wedding in Mexico, this beautiful couple gathered loved ones from near and far to celebrate in our private oceanfront villa. Their vision of a chic black-and-white theme came to life flawlessly — elegant, romantic, and filled with unforgettable moments by the sea.

Destination Wedding Fashion: Black & White and a Custom Bridal Gown

The wedding day began with a morning of glam at Villa la Joya. Ashley slipped into her custom Olia Zavozina gown — a unique strapless design with a romantic bodice and a perfectly corseted waist that highlighted her timeless style. Her bridesmaids wore sleek black dresses, their polished low ponytails and chic looks perfectly complementing the monochrome palette.

Terence cut a classic figure in a traditional tuxedo with a sharp white jacket and black pants — a striking choice against the turquoise Caribbean backdrop. His groomsmen matched in Generation Tux, creating a wedding party look that was refined, cohesive, and effortlessly stylish.

Villa la Joya Romantic Wedding Ceremony in the Riviera Maya

The ceremony took place on the grand front steps of Villa la Joya, where sweeping stone staircases and elegant architecture set the stage for their vows. La Fiore’s lush white florals softened the villa’s stately façade, creating a romantic atmosphere worthy of the occasion.

As their family and friends looked on, Ashley & Terrence promised a lifetime of love. The most emotional moment came when Ashley read her vows. Overcome with emotion, she began to sob, struggling to get the words out. It was raw, authentic, and unforgettable — and by the end, there wasn’t a dry eye among their guests.

Mexico Wedding Reception Under the Stars

As the sun set over the Riviera Maya, guests gathered in Villa la Joya’s seaside garden for a reception under the stars. Signature cocktails from BeYou Service raised spirits, while the black-and-white theme continued to set a tone of timeless elegance.

The reception looks for the bride and groom were pure Hollywood glamour. Ashley dazzled in her second dress by Ashley Lauren — a sparkling mini designed for dancing — while Terence looked every bit the leading man in a black brocade jacket. Together, they embodied old-Hollywood romance with a tropical twist.

A cigar bar with a live roller from Showtime added a touch of indulgence, and the cake by Lluvia de Azúcar stood as a centerpiece almost too stunning to cut. When it was time to dance, Disco Móvil Cancún filled the floor with music and lights, while a dazzling LED dance floor and dry fireworks showered the celebration in sparks. It was the perfect finale to an unforgettable night.

A Villa la Joya Wedding to Remember

From all of us at Villa la Joya, we send our warmest wishes to Ashley and Terence. It was an honor to host your destination wedding in our little corner of paradise, and we wish you a lifetime of laughter and love.

Ashley & Terence’s celebration is a beautiful reminder of why couples choose Villa la Joya for their destination wedding in Mexico. From private vows on the front steps to a lively reception under the stars, our villa offers the perfect mix of elegance, intimacy, and celebration.

Brittany & Maik's Destination Wedding at Villa La Joya Mexico

Brittany & Maik's Destination Wedding at Villa La Joya Mexico

A Love Story That Started in Lockdown—and Blossomed by the Sea

Some love stories are written in the stars. Others are written across the hall.

Brittany and Maik met in March 2020, when the world stopped—and fate stepped in. They’d moved into the same condo building in Toronto, right across from one another.

What began as neighborly hellos turned into daily chats, shared meals, and something much more. In the stillness of lockdown, their own little universe formed—just the two of them at 39 Niagara Street.

From friendship to soulmates, they’ve been writing their story ever since.

The Proposal: Spoiler alert, she said yes

Backyard dreams and holiday magic ✨!

Early on, Brittany told Maik her dream proposal was simple: at home, in her parents’ backyard.

When her family revived their annual Christmas party in 2023, she was just excited to reconnect. Until her mom asked her to wait in her childhood bedroom for a “present.”

Her dad called her out—to a trail of rose petals and their imagined first-dance song. At the water’s edge, Maik was waiting with the easiest question she’s ever answered: Will you marry me?

Why choose the Riviera Maya for a destination wedding?

From hometown to home-away-from-home

They first planned a hometown wedding. But with family and friends across Canada, the Netherlands, and the U.S., most would need to travel anyway.

So, they leaned in—turning a one-day event into a full week of memories.

Mexico was the natural choice: sun, warmth, joy. Riviera Maya gave them everything—stunning beaches, incredible food, and time to connect with the people they love most.

The Villa La Joya Moment: Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue

Found on TikTok, loved for life

Brittany discovered Villa La Joya while scrolling TikTok in bed. One look, and she knew. She showed Maik, who instantly agreed.

They reached out, and within days were speaking to Mike, the owner. That first call sealed it.

With Mike, Nancy, and Enrique leading the way, planning was smooth and stress-free. Every detail was handled with care, leaving them free to focus on what mattered most.

The Riviera Maya Wedding Ceremony

Simple, heartfelt, and perfectly perfect.

Brittany and Maik exchanged vows on the front steps of Villa La Joya—a backdrop that was simple, lovely, and full of charm. With the villa’s architecture framing the moment and the ocean just steps away, it felt timeless and intimate for all the guests in attendance.

Cocktail Hour: Villa la Joya Garden Party by the Sea

Garden views and family vibes

Guests moved into the villa’s gardens for cocktail hour, where cozy seating areas encouraged mingling and conversation. It was a relaxed, family-friendly celebration—complete with the sweet sound of babies giggling between clinks of champagne glasses.

Lush, romantic, and full of candlelight.

Brittany looked stunning in a figure-hugging, off-the-shoulder gown that showed off her enviable curves. Her hair was swept into a sleek bun—perfect for the heat and humidity, and a beautiful way to showcase her gorgeous face.

Maik complemented her look in a lightweight beige suit, perfect for the tropical setting.

They let Villa La Joya’s natural beauty shine, blending soft sage and ivory with rich wood, lush greenery, and endless candles. Dark wood tables and chairs were dressed with low runners of white flowers—perfect for easy conversation across the table. From ceremony to reception, the glow was warm, romantic, and entirely theirs.

The Reception: Get the Party Going on the Dance Floor

Warm, welcoming, and full of joy!

The reception felt like one big embrace—warm, welcoming, and alive with speeches that sparked both laughter and tears.

Later in the evening, Brittany changed into a sweet, short, and sexy dress—perfect for kicking up her heels and owning the dance floor. Surrounded by family and friends, the celebration carried on late into the night.

Most Memorable Moment

A love letter to family.

During the reception, Brittany and Maik took the mic to thank their families. Maik even spoke in Dutch, his family’s native language.

Most guests didn’t know the words—but they felt the emotion. It was love, pride, and gratitude in its purest form.

Advice from the Newlyweds

Timing, tan lines, and taking it all in.

Their tips for future couples planning a destination wedding:

– Build in extra time—especially for groomsmen.

– Consider the heat. May was hot, so a cooler month might be more comfortable.

They also loved marrying early in the trip. Their May 20 ceremony gave them the rest of the week to relax, celebrate, and relive every moment—without worrying about tan lines or timelines.

Thank You & Best Wishes to Brittany and Maik

Brittany and Maik, thank you for letting us be part of your beautiful beginning. From your quiet connection in 2020 to your vibrant celebration on Mexico’s shores, your love story is unforgettable. We wish you a lifetime of laughter, adventure, and quiet moments—wherever life takes you next.

Villa la Joya Wedding Ceremony Details

Jenn and Matt hosted their ceremony in front of the Villa la Joya grand façade, creating a distinct space from their cocktail hour and reception. This allowed guests to experience different areas of the venue and enjoy a flow that felt both intentional and effortless.

Guests were seated on cushioned wooden chairs, facing a circular floral arch created by Pentaflor—a really amazing masterpiece of vibrant roses and tropical blooms in pink, orange, yellow, and white tones. The floral design complemented the architecture of Villa la Joya beautifully and added color and joy to the ceremony space. We are always happy to work with the best floral vendors in the Riviera Maya and Pentaflor is among our faves.

“We wanted the ceremony to feel separate and special. The team made everything relaxed and easy so we could be present and enjoy every second.”

Reception by the Sea: Ocean Views and Breakdancing Groomsmen

Following the ceremony, guests moved to the seaside reception area, where the original floral arch was repurposed as a backdrop for the sweetheart table. Long wooden tables were decorated with bright floral centerpieces, matching the tropical-meets-elegant wedding theme that works so magnificently at Villa la Joya.

The reception featured:

Dinner by Icaza Creativos Catering

Open bar with custom cocktails by Barras Libres

Live music and dance lighting by Disco Movil Cancun

Toasts, laughter, and Olympic-level groomsmen breakdancing

With the Caribbean Sea just steps away, guests danced with the ocean breezes under twinkling lights and enjoyed a night that was truly unforgettable.

Samantha & Patrick’s Villa la Joya Wedding in Riviera Maya

Samantha & Patrick’s Villa la Joya Wedding in Riviera Maya

An intimate, stylish celebration on the coast of Mexico

How They Met: The Love Story Begins

Samantha and Patrick first crossed paths at Deloitte Consulting, on her very first day. Patrick led the orientation. Sparks? Definitely. But with Samantha living in Miami and Patrick in Washington, D.C., timing wasn’t on their side.

Fast forward to the pandemic. Patrick moved to Philadelphia to start his MBA at Wharton, and Samantha was spending time with family in New York. Finally in the same region, they met up for a full-day NYC adventure: walking through Central Park, grabbing pizza, and ending the night with their first kiss at Gantry Plaza State Park.

Three years later, Patrick proposed in that exact same spot.

Why Choose a Destination Wedding in Mexico

One of Samantha and Patrick’s first trips as a couple was to Tulum. They loved it so much, they extended the trip to explore Cancun too. It was on that getaway that they truly fell in love with the Mexican Caribbean.

Choosing a destination wedding in the Riviera Maya felt like coming full circle. It honored their beginnings, reflected Patrick’s Bolivian roots, and served as the perfect middle ground between his family in South America and Samantha’s in New York.

Why Villa la Joya Was the One

When scouting wedding venues in the Riviera Maya, the couple quickly realized that resorts weren’t the right vibe. Too many rules. Too many restrictions.

Villa la Joya offered something different: privacy, flexibility, space for a big party, and the freedom to stay up late and celebrate. It also allowed their guests to stay wherever they wanted in nearby Playa del Carmen. No wristbands. No matching towels. Just vibes.

The Most Meaningful Wedding Moments

Their first dance was something special. Samantha and Patrick spent three months taking dance lessons and choreographed a routine to a custom mix created just for their wedding. It was a challenge they took on together, and they nailed it. Their parents’ dances brought the tears, the smiles, and everything in between.

Destination Wedding Style & Details

The Look

The wedding date, 2.22, set the tone for a day rooted in style and simplicity. Samantha wore her hair in soft curls and kept her makeup fresh and glowing, highlighting her dark eyes and natural beauty. Her gown featured a lace bodice with a nude illusion neckline, paired with a veil and skirt that floated like a breeze, light, airy, and perfectly at home in a beachfront celebration.

Patrick looked effortlessly cool in a lightweight suit, perfect for the tropical weather and the relaxed-yet-refined tone of the day.

The Ceremony at Villa la Joya Riviera Maya

The couple exchanged vows on the front steps of Villa la Joya, framed by a grand façade and a striking asymmetrical floral arch. It was architectural, organic, and absolutely unforgettable.

Their ring bearers—dapper and full of personality—strutted down the aisle in super cool suits, followed by the sweetest flower girl in a crown of fresh blooms. Guests were handed parasols for shade, a thoughtful detail that made everyone feel cared for under the Riviera Maya sun.

When the vows were said and the kiss sealed it, mariachis struck up a tune and led the crowd into the gardens for cocktail hour. Because if you’re getting married in Mexico, you need mariachis. It's basically the law.

The Family Celebrates: A Warm and Welcoming Wedding Reception

As golden hour faded into evening, the gardens of Villa la Joya transformed into a glowing, intimate reception space. A transparent sky tent created a dreamy, open-air vibe while offering shelter from the breeze. A clear dance floor was installed over the pool—yes, over the pool—and it became the center of the celebration.

Warm wood tables, cozy lighting, and a layout that felt inviting set the tone for the night. Samantha and Patrick kicked things off with their choreographed dance under a canopy of twinkling lights. Dry fireworks added a burst of energy, and then, everyone danced.

After a family-style dinner and heartfelt speeches, the party truly took off. Guests danced under the stars, churros and hot chocolate made a late-night appearance (iconic), and a full fireworks show lit up the sea.

It was warm, joyful, and full of heart—exactly what a wedding in Mexico should be.

One Thing They’d Do Differently

They would’ve booked the photographer for more hours. That’s it. When you’re having this much fun, time flies.

Advice for Destination Wedding Brides
