Daniella & Matthew’s Bridgerton-Inspired Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya

Daniella & Matthew’s Bridgerton-Inspired Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya

Daniella and Matthew had been planning this day for a long time. And when it finally arrived, Villa La Joya felt like it knew.

European in its elegance, warm in every detail, and lit, by the end of the night, by fireworks over the Caribbean. This was a wedding that moved between romance and pure joy without ever losing its footing. The kind of day you don't want to summarize. You just want to live inside it a little longer.

The couple first met in college through mutual friends and immediately connected. Years later, Matthew proposed at the SLS Baha Mar in Nassau, Bahamas surrounded by family, and eventually the two returned to one of the places that meant the most to them for the next chapter of their story.

“We chose Mexico for our destination wedding because it was the first vacation spot we traveled to alone together,” Daniella shared.

“Besides Villa La Joya being absolutely beautiful and breathtaking, we loved the privacy and could make our vision come to life with the open canvas of space.”

Editorial-Inspired Getting Ready Moments

The morning of the wedding felt calm, glamorous, and full of anticipation. Soft natural light poured through the windows as Daniella and her bridesmaids got ready in matching champagne-toned pajamas, champagne glasses in hand, looking straight out of a bridal editorial.

Daniella was absolutely radiant. Her lace gown featured a figure-hugging fit-and-flare silhouette with delicate illusion sleeves and an incredible lace train that flowed beautifully through the villa’s marble interiors. Her long waves and crystal hairpiece completed the timeless look perfectly.

Matthew matched the sophistication of the day with a formal look of his own. His cream dinner jacket, paired with navy satin lapels and tailored navy trousers, felt polished, modern, and incredibly chic against the warm Italian-inspired architecture of Villa la Joya.

A Cinematic First Look Inside Villa la Joya

One of the most breathtaking parts of the day was the couple’s first look inside the villa.

Between the marble corridors, soaring arches, chandeliers, and soft natural light, the portraits feel cinematic. The combination of Daniella’s romantic lace gown, Matthew’s timeless formalwear, and the grand architecture created a subtle Bridgerton-inspired atmosphere that was refined, stylish, and incredibly romantic.

“My favorite moment of my wedding was our first look,” Daniella shared.

The villa itself became part of the storytelling. Every hallway, balcony, and marble floor created another unforgettable backdrop for portraits that felt intimate while still grand in scale.

A Romantic Oceanfront Ceremony in White and Gold

The ceremony design perfectly reflected the wedding’s ivory-and-gold vision.

Guests were welcomed by a glossy white aisle lined with lush white florals leading toward a spectacular oval floral arch overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The arch created a picture-frame effect against the ocean backdrop while allowing the natural beauty of the Riviera Maya coastline to shine.

“My wedding theme was a Bridgerton vibe with ivory and gold colors. I really wanted it to be elegant and timeless.”

The all-white floral palette paired beautifully with Villa la Joya’s oceanfront setting and European-inspired architecture. Every detail felt luxurious while still remaining soft, romantic, and inviting.

An Unforgettable Cocktail Hour Full of Surprises

As guests moved into cocktail hour, the celebration transformed into a fully immersive experience.

Live musicians performed while guests enjoyed cocktails surrounded by tropical gardens, candlelight, and ocean views. An aerial acrobat suspended beside the villa added a dramatic, dreamlike element to the evening. One of the most memorable details was an incredible champagne skirt performer dressed in white and gold serving glasses of champagne directly to guests.

The entertainment throughout the evening was thoughtfully timed and beautifully executed, creating moments of surprise throughout the night while still maintaining the refined atmosphere of the wedding.

A Reception That Felt Timeless, Romantic, and Fun

The reception design continued the soft ivory-and-gold palette with mirrored tables, gold furniture, candlelight, and lush floral arrangements.

At the center of the reception space was the sweetheart table framed beneath the ceremony arch overflowing with white roses and romantic candlelight. Absolutely lush. Absolutely divine.

The wedding cake was another standout detail of the evening. Inspired by classic European cake artistry, the ivory cake featured ornate piped detailing and an elegant swan topper that felt perfectly in line with the overall aesthetic of the wedding. Bravo to Lali Pasteles. It was a masterpiece.

Throughout dinner, a live painter captured one of the couple’s first moments as newlyweds on canvas while guests watched the artwork slowly come to life in real time.

Fireworks, Crepes, Hora Loca, and a Packed Dance Floor

As the evening continued, the energy of the celebration evolved from sophisticated dinner party to full destination wedding party.

Daniella changed into a playful lace mini dress for the reception and dance floor, bringing a glamorous and fashion-forward energy to the evening while still feeling perfectly connected to the style of the day.

Guests were treated to a crepe cart late into the evening before the celebration exploded into an unforgettable hora loca complete with disco balls, bubble guns, limbo, LED foam sticks, and a packed dance floor that kept guests celebrating all night long.

To end the evening, fireworks lit up the Caribbean Sea behind the newlyweds before guests gathered for a sparkling sendoff outside Villa la Joya.

All of us at Villa la Joya were obsessed with this wedding. So many unique choices made this celebration feel personal, immersive, and completely unforgettable. There were thoughtful details woven throughout the entire day, and every moment flowed beautifully from one experience to the next.

We wish Daniella and Matthew a lifetime filled with joy, adventure, and celebration together. Thank you for allowing Villa la Joya to be part of such an unforgettable wedding day. We know we will never forget it.

Eileen & Patrick’s Talavera-Inspired Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya

Eileen & Patrick’s Talavera-Inspired Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya

Eileen and Patrick have basically grown up together.

The two met in high school back in 2010, started dating before college, and after 12 years together finally celebrated their wedding at Villa la Joya surrounded by all of their favorite people. Incredible ocean views, a divine dinner, late-night churros, Talavera-inspired details, and one unforgettable “flower girl” moment involving beers instead of petals. Honestly, we loved this wedding.

Why Eileen & Patrick Chose a Destination Wedding in Mexico

The couple traveled from Ohio to the Riviera Maya looking for a destination wedding with genuine Mexican influence woven throughout the experience. From the music and menu to the colorful design details, everything felt thoughtful, personal, and fun. This was definitely not another cookie-cutter resort wedding.

Why choose a wedding in the Riviera Maya, Mexico? Patrick and I live in Ohio. We knew we wanted our wedding to have Mexican influence and that was a bit difficult to do where we live. Riviera Maya was the perfect place where our guests could experience something new without traveling too far, we'd have plenty of talented vendors to choose from to include the Mexican details, and of course the stunning views.

How did you decide that Villa La Joya was the right venue? I happened to come across Villa La Joya on social media and fell in love instantly. We visited the website, watched videos, and decided to book without visiting in person and before we got a wedding planner. We just knew it would be everything we were looking for.

Elegant Fashion & Talavera-Inspired Wedding Design

Eileen’s bridal gown was sleek, sexy, and timeless, with a unique tie-up back that we absolutely loved. Smooth white satin and a classic black tuxedo always works. Her bouquet added the perfect soft contrast, with light, fresh colors that photographed beautifully against the tropical setting and white architecture of Villa la Joya.

The floral design throughout the day was gorgeous. Soft blues, blush tones, creamy whites, eucalyptus, and delicate lavender accents gave everything a romantic and relaxed feel. The Talavera-inspired details showed up throughout the wedding design, including the beautiful seating chart display that immediately set the tone for the celebration. The blue and white pattern was playful, colorful, and unmistakably Mexican while still keeping everything elegant and refined.

A Romantic Ceremony at Villa la Joya

The ceremony took placer on the front steps of Villa la Joya. The clean white architecture, soft pastel florals, and afternoon sun created such a beautiful setting for Eileen and Patrick to finally say “I do” after more than a decade together.

One of the most emotional moments of the ceremony was the Catholic lazo tradition, symbolizing the union of the couple as they officially began this next chapter together.

And yes, we absolutely loved their last-minute “flower girl” decision. As this was an adults-only wedding, there were no adorable flower girls to be found. Instead, one of the cousins walked down the aisle handing out beers, which honestly matched the fun energy of this wedding perfectly. It got a huge laugh from guests and made the ceremony feel personal and memorable.

Cocktail Hour & Oceanfront Reception Under the Sky Tents

After exchanging their vows, Eileen and Patrick welcomed their guests to the cocktail hour in the Villa la Joya gardens by the sea. Comfortable lounge seating, ocean views, great drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere made it feel like the kind of wedding where guests instantly settle in and enjoy themselves.

The reception layout was designed for a night that flowed naturally. Round, light-wood tables, layered pastel florals, candlelight, and subtle Talavera details tied everything together perfectly without feeling overdone. Their sweetheart table overlooking the ocean was another favorite detail. The cozy bench seating was perfect for sneaking little moments together between dinner, speeches, and dancing.

As the sun went down, the entire reception transformed. The clear-top sky tents glowed with candlelight and twinkling strands overhead, creating an incredible atmosphere for dinner, speeches, and dancing by the ocean. Villa la Joya always looks beautiful at night, but this setup was something special. The reflections across the pool, the lighting, the music, and the packed dance floor completely transformed the villa.

The toasts brought both laughter and tears as family and friends celebrated Eileen and Patrick’s love and life together and everything they had built side by side.

Later in the evening, Eileen changed into the cutest reception dress and fully switched into party mode. Short, fun, and perfect for dancing, it matched the energy of the night completely. You could tell nobody was ready for the night to end, including the bride and groom, who admitted afterward that they easily could have kept the party going another hour.

Congratulations to Eileen & Patrick

A huge thank you to Eileen and Patrick for trusting Villa la Joya with such an important celebration. Your wedding was beautiful, joyful, personal, and full of so much heart. We loved every minute of it and wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.

Kathrina and Delfin Get Married in Mexico

Kathrina and Delfin Get Married in Mexico

We host a lot of weddings at Villa la Joya, and we believe there is no such thing as “just another event”. We welcome each couple to our home by the sea and they invite us into their worlds, their love stories, their families.

Once the party is over and the newlyweds have had a moment to breathe, we ask them what stood out the most in their destination wedding journey.

For Kathrina and Delfin, it wasn’t just one moment.

It was the whole thing. Having everyone they love in one place, in Mexico, for a full week. Not rushed, not just a few hours. Time together.

And you could feel that in every part of the day. Warm, inviting, intimate, and absolutely full of love. This is exactly the kind of destination wedding Villa la Joya was made for.

Simple Elegance, Letting Love Take Center Stage

Bride Kathrina wore a gown that matched that energy perfectly. Nothing overdone, just sleek lines and an incredible veil full of detail that caught the light in all the right ways. Her skin glowed with natural makeup and soft waves in her hair.

Groom Delfin kept it classic with a white dinner jacket and black pants. Clean, sharp, and exactly right next to her.

The ceremony took place by the sea in the Villa la Joya garden, framed with white florals and soft greenery. Little flower girls in pink scattered petals down the aisle, completely stealing hearts along the way.

The vows were emotional. You could feel it ripple through everyone there.

And then, they sealed it with a tequila shot and a kiss and cheers from their people.

Let’s Party. This is What a Destination Wedding Reception Feels Like

Wood, candlelight, greenery, soft lighting everywhere. The kind of setup that makes people settle in and stay awhile. Floating lanterns in the pool, chandeliers above, and those lush white florals tying everything together without ever feeling too formal.

Kathrina and Delfin invited their guests to share in an intimate evening of celebration. A cozy cocktail hour followed by a wedding feast and a round of toasts and tributes that brought laughter and tears alike.

The first dance, fireworks, tequila starting to flow, and suddenly the dance floor was full and not letting up. The bride changed into a fun little mini dress. The groom switched things up too, and from that point on it was just pure celebration

Romance, Family and Love: The Feeling is What Really Matters

Kids, parents, friends. Everyone in it together. No holding back. Just laughter, dancing, and that kind of energy you only get when people are genuinely happy to be sharing a joyous celebration. Later in the evening, the churro cart came out with a “Love is Sweet” sign, the words capturing perfectly the feelings of the day.

Jen & Carl’s Elegant All-White Wedding at Villa la Joya

Jen & Carl’s Elegant All-White Wedding at Villa la Joya

The Intro: A Story 10 Years in the Making

Jen and Carl first met during their sophomore year of college (thanks to a fraternity wine tour!), and after a decade of life, growth, and long distance, they finally landed in the sun-drenched gardens of Villa La Joya.

For these two New Yorkers, the Riviera Maya wasn't just a destination; it was the place where they finally got to start their life together under one roof.

The Location: Why Villa La Joya?

They originally fell in love with the Villa online, but seeing it in person was the "this is it" moment. It has that rare Mediterranean elegance that feels worlds away from the city, yet perfectly at home in the beautiful Mexican weather. It provided the exact intimate, private energy they wanted for their closest friends and family.

The Vibe: White Florals & Espresso Martinis

Jen’s vision was all about "flowy garden whimsy." She had a few non-negotiables: all-white florals with lush greenery, twinkle lights everywhere, and the star of the night … an espresso martini tower.

Working alongside a dream team like Mango Weddings and Pure Love (Florals), they turned the Villa into a whimsical garden that felt high-end but totally relaxed.

The Moment: A Breath of Fresh Air

The morning of a wedding is always a whirlwind of hairspray and nerves. Jen told us their First Look was their favorite part of the day because it was the first time they could actually be together. It was a moment to finally slow down, take a breath, and realize that after ten years, the day was finally here. It felt like the rest of the world just disappeared for a few minutes while we captured those first portraits.

Real Advice: Stay True and Delegate

Jen’s biggest takeaway for other destination brides? Stay true to your vision. It’s impossible to please everyone, so focus on what makes you happy as a couple. On a more practical note: delegate! Don't assume the family knows the plan. Assign specific tasks—like securing the card box—to your bridal party so you can actually enjoy your party without worrying about the logistics.

Thank You to Jen & Carl

Jen and Carl, your wedding was the perfect balance of elegance, emotion, and celebration. Thank you for trusting Villa la Joya with such an important moment in your story.

Riley & Joey’s Wedding at Villa la Joya, Playa del Carmen

Riley & Joey’s Wedding at Villa la Joya, Playa del Carmen

She first came across our beachside villa on Instagram and saved it. Long before the engagement, it was already there, quietly waiting to become the place where everything would happen.

Riley had already chosen Villa la Joya before she was even engaged.

When she and Joey finally visited in person, the decision was immediate. The space, the light, the ocean just steps away, it all felt exactly like what they had imagined for a destination wedding in Playa del Carmen.

From College to the Riviera Maya

Riley and Joey met in college in 2019, when his fraternity and her sorority crossed paths at an event. What started there turned into something steady, leading to an engagement at home in 2024.

When it came time to plan their wedding, the goal was simple: choose a place they already loved and create a full experience around it. Mexico made sense. Not just for the location, but for what it allows; time, space, and a celebration that extends beyond a single day.

What a Wedding at Villa la Joya Actually Feels Like

For couples considering a wedding at Villa la Joya, the experience is different from a traditional resort wedding.

The ceremony takes place on a private oceanfront garden, facing the Mexican Caribbean Sea. There’s no shared space, no background noise, no overlap with other events. Just one wedding, fully contained within the villa.

For Riley and Joey, that meant a ceremony that felt open and calm, with the ocean as a constant backdrop. The design followed that same approach, tropical, elegant, and refined. White florals, soft greenery, and natural wood tones framed the space without competing with it.

The seaside ceremony was attended by an intimate group of family and friends who traveled from afar to witness these special moments. Small destination weddings feel as though you have been included in something extraordinary and unforgettable.

A Seamless Flow from Ceremony to Celebration

One of the reasons couples choose Villa la Joya is the layout.

Everything happens in one place, which changes the rhythm of the day. Guests move naturally from ceremony to cocktails to reception without transportation, delays, or resets.

For Riley and Joey, that meant more time with their guests and less time managing logistics. Cocktail hour unfolded by the ocean, followed by a reception layered with long tables, candlelight, and soft coastal tones that carried the design forward.

Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt disconnected.

Dinner, Speeches, and a Full Dance Floor

As the sun set, the tone shifted.

Guests dined with the sound of gentle ocean waves, the light softening into evening. Speeches were personal and meaningful, toasts to love and stories that brought tears and laughter.

Riley and Joey then joined their guests in kicking up their heels to great music and a private party on the dance floor that was personal and unique and just right for the newlyweds and their guests.

Why Destination Weddings Work in Playa del Carmen

A destination wedding in Playa del Carmen isn’t just about the setting. It changes how the entire experience unfolds.

Guests stay longer. Time slows down. The wedding becomes part of a larger experience rather than a single event.

Riley shared something we hear often; if they could do it again, they would.

“Villa la Joya and Villa Planners were absolutely fantastic and we couldn’t have asked for a better team planning a destination wedding.

We loved having a destination wedding here and would do it all over again. Every single vendor was absolutely incredible and helped us bring our vision of a tropical, elegant wedding to life. Adriana was fantastic and it made me feel so much more comfortable knowing how experienced she was.”

With the right venue and the right planning team, it doesn’t feel complicated. It feels easier.

The Role of Villa Planners

Behind that ease is structure.

Planning a wedding in the Riviera Maya requires local knowledge, coordination across vendors, and someone who understands how to execute within the space.

Riley specifically mentioned how much confidence she felt working with Adriana Hiromoto and the Villa Planners team. Experience matters, especially in a destination setting, and it shows in how the day unfolds.

The Team Behind the Wedding

This wedding came together through a group of vendors who know how to deliver clean, cohesive events in Playa del Carmen.

Each element, from florals to music to catering, worked together without excess, supporting the overall vision rather than competing for attention.
