2023 Wedding Trend Predictions: Plan Your Dream Wedding with These Inspirational Ideas

These 2023 wedding trend predictions come straight from our crystal ball to you! Ok, we may not be psychic but we’ve got our fingers on the pulse of the wedding world and these are the trends we think we’ll see for destination weddings in 2023. Ready to be inspired?

Bright, bold and beautiful: 2023 wedding decor that POPS

Rich purples, deep emerald greens, fun fuschia, we are expecting to see some colorful weddings this year. Of course we will still see the beautiful neutrals many brides prefer but we LOVE when Villa la Joya is full of color and light. A destination wedding in Mexico was made for colorful decor, from flowers to napkins to the sweetheart’s table, viva Mexico, viva los colores!

Unconventional wedding dresses and an eye on sustainability

2023 brides are going to bring us some GREAT surprises! The trends for 2023 wedding dresses are taking us down an unconventional path with suits and separates that can be worn again and paired with anything. Wearing a bridal gown once is not sustainable so many designers and brides are taking this into consideration. A super hot trend is bridal gowns with removable long skirts that convert to a sexy short dress for the reception and we think we‘ll be seeing a lot of sexy thigh-high slits this year!

2023 Bridesmaids dresses for destination weddings

We are going to see more and more mismatched bridesmaid dresses coming up in 2023. This is a super way to allow your bridal party to show off their own personality, giving them the freedom to choose silhouettes that best fit their bodies. The styles will be less formal and more laidback, again leaning towards sustainability and giving bridesmaids a dress they can wear again instead of just hiding it away in the closet in a garment bag.

2023 Destination Wedding Trends: Big weddings are back

The pandemic put a damper on a whole lot of wedding plans, with cancellations everywhere, and couples trying to find a way to have the wedding of their dreams during a world crisis. As travel restrictions were lifted, we saw a lot of lovely small weddings and intimate affairs with the nearest and dearest. With the world opening up again, we’re going to see some FABULOUS fiestas and a trend to the bigger weddings we used to see. Invite ALL your family and friends and celebrate with a huge party!

Wedding photos in 2023: Candids, Polaroids and Natural Light

Wedding photos in 2023 are going to be less formal and posed and more casual and candid! We can help you choose a great Playa del Carmen wedding photographer who will be the perfect fit for your big day and have a great understanding of the latest wedding trends. We are going to be seeing a lot more disposable cameras and Polaroids at 2023 weddings in Mexico, snap and instant print and enjoy the moment forever.

Tik Tok Don’t Stop: Move Over Pinterest, Tik Tok is Taking Over

The video application TikTok is THE way for young couples to look for 2023 wedding inspiration. More than just pinning a look, TikTok video creators are bringing content full of ideas, inspiration, and loads of tips and tricks for wedding planning in 2023. TikTok has been given the title “the future of wedding planning”, if you don’t have the app, download it now! Or follow our Wedding Planning TikTok for inspiration.

Wedding gift registries 2023: Move over toasters, welcome experiences!

Wedding registries of course will always have the “traditional” household items to get the newlyweds started in their new life. We are now seeing more and more registries leaning towards “experiences” rather than the consumable goods that many couples already have. Register for a dinner cruise in your hometown, a fun class for the couple to take together (salsa dancing anyone?), or a trip of a lifetime to swim with whale sharks near Cancun. There is now a big trend towards cash registries too, as simple as adding a Venmo or other money-sharing apps that make it easy for your loved ones to send a little something for the newlyweds.

What are your 2023 wedding trend predictions? Let’s turn ideas into reality with a Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding!

We can’t wait to hear your ideas and help you plan your own 2023 destination wedding in paradise. Jason and Clair Get Married in Mexico! Destination Wedding Playa del Carmen

We were so happy to welcome Jason and Clair to Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen for their long-awaited wedding in Mexico. Like many other couples, Jason and Clair had their original wedding plans foiled by the pandemic, their celebration postponed by a whole year. When they finally tied the knot at Villa la Joya it was a joyous reunion for family and friends who had been apart for too long. With gorgeous details and a whole lot of love, we are excited to share with you Jason and Clair’s Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding.

Private villa wedding in Mexico: Tropical romance in the afternoon light

Beautiful couple Jason and Clair joined together forever in love on the steps of Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen. Framed by a stunning floral arch with lush greenery by Cherry Blossom Florists, the couple exchanged vows in the afternoon light in a ceremony surrounded by the love of family and friends. Sealing the deal with a romantic kiss, the newlyweds were aglow as they walked down the aisle as a happily married couple.

We just loved seeing the Playa del Carmen wedding portrait session, Jason and Clair included everyone in the shoot. Photographer Maricarmen Arcos beautifully captured all the smiles amidst the architecture and gardens of Villa la Joya and with the backdrop of the Mexican Caribbean Sea in the afternoon light.

With all the COVID chaos, Jason and Clair's wedding was postponed a full year, and their original resort venue fell through. Some frantic research led them to Villa La Joya where they absolutely fell in love with the beautiful images and the idea of having a private location for their ceremony and reception. The owners were incredibly accommodating and thoughtful and their wedding turned out even better than they could have hoped.

Exchanging vows in front of so many family and friends who had not seen each other in person for such a long time because of the pandemic was a dream. A long-awaited event finally took place and everything went off without a hitch. It was a perfect day. -  Bride Clair

Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding reception: Jason and Clair light up the dance floor

Jason and Clair surprised us with their incredible first dance, lifts and dips and twirls, perfect partners feeling the flow and grooving on amor. Their Villa la Joya wedding reception was an evening of fun with moving toasts and speeches, a dessert cart with churros that were simply irresistible, and a whole lot of getting down on the light-up dance floor from Disco Movil Cancun. We raise a glass to this lovely couple and wish them a lifetime of happiness together!

Anastasia and Vlad Get Married in Playa del Carmen!

The Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding of Anastasia and Vlad was simply magic and we are excited to share their wedding story with you! This beautiful young couple brought family and friends together in the Mexican Caribbean for a joyous celebration of love that was truly meant to be. The bride and groom met as children and grew up together with “kid crushes” even as little ones.

After reuniting as adults, they discovered that their love was more than just kid’s stuff and they started planning a lifetime together! They were engaged in Cancun with both families present in an unforgettable vacation. They returned to their hometown and began the hunt for wedding venues but nothing felt like the right fit. They decided to check out the possibilities for destination weddings in Mexico and we are so glad they did!

After doing lots of research, and talking to friends who also had their weddings in Cancun, I fell in love with Villa la Joya, and we knew that it was where we wanted to get married. It was truly such an exciting moment when we found our dream venue. The beauty of the architecture and the view of the ocean was just everything I dreamed of and more. - Bride Anastasia

Getting ready and “first looks” made us swoon, great start to a perfect wedding day at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen

Anastasia and Vlad spent their “getting ready” time at the Villa la Joya condo with the people that matter most in the world to them. They shared toasts with their bridal parties and families and their excitement was palpable! We absolutely swooned over Anastasia’s bridal gown, a stunning white masterpiece by Alëna Leena Bridal next to handsome groom Vlad decked out all in black. Zoe Elizabeth Makeup created a lovely, soft, natural look for Anastasia, she was glowing all day! The “first look” moment was captured by Daniel Ramirez Photography, the love in the eyes of both bride and groom shine through in each and every photo.

Elegant Playa del Carmen wedding ceremony and a reception full of light, love, and fun

The Villa la Joya wedding ceremony of Anastasia and Vlad was a moving and religious celebration of love. The aisle was lined with white petals and the pillars of white flowers with the Mexican Caribbean Sea as backdrop was just wow. We loved the “crystal” transparent chairs, a nice detail for a garden wedding in Playa del Carmen. With adorable children as flower girls and ring bearers and family from both sides participating in the ceremony, it was truly a family affair to remember.

The wedding reception was full of elegant details, the white on-white decor, oodles of white roses from Cherry Blossom florals, and a dessert table from Gourmet Soberanis with a wedding cake to die for. We were moved by the speeches and toasts of family and friends.

Anastasia and Vlad are blessed to be surrounded by so much love. Once the dancing started it was ON, a dynamic and energetic group of party people lit up the dance floor alongside the tireless bride and groom. This was an unforgettable day of light and love and joy.

Wise wedding advice from bride Anastasia on her destination wedding in Mexico

We always ask our newlyweds to share advice for couples planning their own destination wedding. For a young bride, Anastasia sure offers a lot of wisdom on enjoying your big day. We want to share her words with you:

The day of our wedding, when the makeup artist was doing my hair and makeup, they kept asking me, “how are you so calm, most brides are usually freaking out.” And I told the makeup artists, as well as all my bridesmaids, “I am enjoying and soaking in every moment. There was so much planning and stress leading up to this point that now I can enjoy everything that we spent so much time planning.” I was also so relaxed because I knew my wedding planners had everything taken care of. I also told myself that although things might not go as I had planned, or might not go as I had imagined, that I would still enjoy it. Not everything will go as planned, but the most important thing is to still enjoy it.

That is the biggest advice that I can also give to brides. I am so thankful and blessed to have been able to work with such amazing vendors. Our wedding day was an absolute dream and I wouldn't change a single thing! - Anastasia

Enjoy. Every. Moment.

Big thanks to Anastasia and Vlad for choosing Villa la Joya for your Playa del Carmen wedding celebration

Things to Consider when Booking Hair and Makeup Artists for Your Destination Wedding

Things to Consider when Booking Hair and Makeup Artists for Your Destination Wedding

When brides envision their wedding day, the dreams begin with a stunning dress, perfect hair and flawless makeup. You want to look your very best all day from the ceremony to the reception so choosing the right vendors for your hair and makeup is crucial! A destination wedding in a tropical setting comes with its own unique challenges with humidity, wind, and sun. We've got some tips on choosing your Playa del Carmen hair and makeup vendors for your Villa la Joya wedding.

Book your destination wedding venue first. Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen says “Welcome, bienvenido!”

This is number one on any destination wedding planning list and it is important for oh so many reasons. If you want the very best hair and makeup artists in the Riviera Maya, you may want to skip the all-inclusive resort wedding; they charge exorbitant fees to bring in outside vendors! Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen welcomes the top hair and makeup vendors with NO extra fees, we love working with these world-class experts in beauty! Get ready in the comfort of our private condo before your wedding, an exclusive way to share special time with your loved ones without masses of tourists around.

Ask for advice and read the reviews of Playa del Carmen hair and makeup experts

Once you’ve booked your venue, you’ve got resources at your disposal to ask for expert destination wedding advice. The wedding planners at Villa la Joya will be delighted to share a list of our recommended hair and makeup studios in Playa del Carmen to help find the right fit for you. Be sure to check out the online reviews of the vendors and spend some time perusing their socials looking for inspiration and that artist that makes you go “OOOOOOOOOH”.

Do a trial run! Get the look of your dreams with a pre-wedding makeup and hair trial

We highly recommend a hair and makeup trial before your wedding day to meet your stylist and finalize details or make adjustments. Schedule your trial for a day where you have a pre-wedding event like a welcome party, rehearsal dinner or other special occasion. If you are coming down for a scouting trip, schedule your trial on a day where you can capture engagement photos too.

Do your homework: Communication with your wedding hair and makeup artist

We asked Doranna Hairstylist for advice and she highly recommends sharing lots of pics with your artist for inspiration. Be sure to look into hair and makeup styles that match your hair color, length, texture, skin tone, and ask your stylist for guidance! Braided looks for example can look very different on blonde vs, dark hair and those soft and pretty curls you want may not last if you have exceptionally straight hair and the humidity is high. Communication with the local experts is key!

You get what you pay for. Choose your Playa del Carmen hair and makeup studio for their quality, not a bargain price!

Love above the price. Most higher-priced artists have more experience with different skin tones and hair and will invest in the best products for their clients. Don’t ruin your hair with a stylist that uses a hairspray you can buy at Walmart or risk an amateur attempt at makeup. You need a long-lasting look and the best, the extra bucks are worth it and you will never regret the expense as you look at your wedding photos for years to come.

Pre-travel beauty treatments to indulge in before your destination wedding

Book pre-travel treatments for things you can take care of in advance. Retouch your roots, get hair extensions, wax your brows, get a facial for glowing skin. Even a massage goes a long way to help you stay relaxed and will give you the full body love you need and a boost to your skin.

Enhance your natural beauty with light makeup options for your outdoor wedding

The last thing a bride wants is to have a cakey pile of melting makeup on her face for her wedding day. The hot and humid weather and bright sun of the Riviera Maya mean you’ll want to choose natural or light makeup options. We highly recommend choosing an artist who is an expert in airbrush makeup in Playa del Carmen, a light touch that lasts and works great in our tropical climate. {Credits: Zoe Elizabeth & Amor Amor Weddings / ST Makeup Artistry & Moni Adri Photography / Zoe Elizabeth & Daniel Ramirez Photography}

Pre-wedding skin protection, avoid the lobster look and other skin tragedies

You’ve arrived in Playa del Carmen for your destination wedding and you are ready to hang out with friends on the beach and enjoy the sun! That is great BUT, you have got to protect your skin from the intense rays and the danger of a sunburn. Bring sunscreen wherever you go, wear a hat and stay in the shade as much as you can. Sunburns can HURT and nobody wants to look like a cooked lobster on their wedding day. Avoid bikini tan lines that will show under your dress too, get a cute beach cover-up and use that sunblock! While you are toasting your love with delicious cocktails, take care not to overindulge as too much alcohol will definitely affect how your skin looks for your wedding photos.

Ask the experts at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen weddings, we know the BEST hair and makeup artists in the Riviera Maya!

Feeling inspired? Ready to book your own Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding and find the best hair and makeup artists in the Riviera Maya? Send us a message today, we will be delighted to talk bridal beauty for destination weddings with you and help you book the wedding of your dreams.

Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

International Love: Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

This is a tale of two beautiful weddings, the gorgeous union of Nigerian beauty Dami and her handsome Englishman Angus was an unforgettable day of love, family, and meaningful details! The gardens of Villa la Joya were filled with music and laughter and dancing and a vibe of warmth and love that you could feel in your soul. The blend of wedding traditions from Nigeria, England, and Mexico in this multicultural destination wedding in Mexico was a sensational delight for the family and friends who came to share in the excitement. Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen was happy to host the big day and we are thrilled to share this story of love with you all.

Nigerian wedding in Mexico: African amor and emotional family traditions

We were so happy to welcome Dami and Angus to Villa la Joya and eager to learn all about Nigerian wedding traditions. We asked Dami to tell us about celebrating her African roots and share her thoughts with us.

In our case, we had two weddings, the first was the Nigerian traditional wedding and the second was the White wedding ceremony.

For us Nigerians, the Nigerian wedding is the more important wedding, it symbolizes a culture of respect, honor, family, and in our case the union between our different cultures and the history they both represent.

As my now husband is an Englishman, it was wonderful to see him and his friends dance into the garden and prostrate before my parents to receive their blessings, and it was also beautiful to receive the prayers from his parents on my part too.

I think the most amazing part of this wedding are the Nigerian outfits; these make the day colorful, and the music was Afro beats and on point. Everyone had smiles on their faces as it was the first time many of them had experienced this unique blend of cultures.

We shared Nigerian food during the reception and it was a hit! We also danced and our guests were prepared for spraying money the Nigerian way! The Nigerian cake was delicious too!

We adored every aspect of the Nigerian wedding ceremony, the traditional outfits, the music, and the rituals of the family blessings. The colors and intricate details of the clothing, the feather fans, the tables overflowing with fruit, and at the center of it all the bond between bride and groom. The union of two cultures, two families, and the swaying palms of Playa del Carmen, you’ve got to see all the photos, stunning multicultural wedding in Mexico inspiration!

The White Wedding: Mariachis, roses upon roses and an unforgettable fiesta for all

Part two of Dami and Angus’ Villa la Joya wedding was a traditional white wedding in the garden overlooking the turquoise Mexican Caribbean Sea. Mariachis played a welcome to the ceremony and guests were greeted by an arch of lush white roses and baby’s breath. Dami traded her traditional Nigerian wedding outfit for a white lace bridal gown with a simple and elegant headpiece and veil that framed her gorgeous face perfectly. Groom Angus was handsome in his smart suspenders and rocking the “no socks” look and cool shades. They exchanged vows in a joyous ceremony and were showered in flower petals as they walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

The reception was a dynamic celebration, Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen came alive with the dancing, music and laughter of the warm and loving friends and family of Dami and Angus. Raise a glass of champagne, take a shot of tequila and let the money fly, we loved everything about this multicultural wedding in Mexico!

Why choose Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen for your wedding in Mexico?

We were thrilled to play host and help put together the perfectly unique wedding of Dami and Angus. We asked them why they chose a wedding at Villa la Joya and they kindly shared this with us:

I had actually been searching for 2 weeks for the right place before I found Villa la Joya.  I was very particular about not wanting to get married on the sandy beach but I still hoped to have a view of the beach somewhere.

So when I found Villa la Joya, I knew it was the place. The pictures were stunning, and I could see myself getting married there. I showed my now husband the pictures and he was on board as well and that’s when we decided to go for it.

When we visited the place it was even better than we had expected. Mike the owner was incredible. He shared a lot of wisdom and we had an amazing experience speaking with him. Enrique and the staff welcomed us and made everything easy. I’m so glad I found this gem.

We extend our huge thanks and much gratitude to Dami and Angus for inviting Villa la Joya to host their multicultural wedding in Mexico. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.
