Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

International Love: Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

This is a tale of two beautiful weddings, the gorgeous union of Nigerian beauty Dami and her handsome Englishman Angus was an unforgettable day of love, family, and meaningful details! The gardens of Villa la Joya were filled with music and laughter and dancing and a vibe of warmth and love that you could feel in your soul. The blend of wedding traditions from Nigeria, England, and Mexico in this multicultural destination wedding in Mexico was a sensational delight for the family and friends who came to share in the excitement. Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen was happy to host the big day and we are thrilled to share this story of love with you all.

Nigerian wedding in Mexico: African amor and emotional family traditions

We were so happy to welcome Dami and Angus to Villa la Joya and eager to learn all about Nigerian wedding traditions. We asked Dami to tell us about celebrating her African roots and share her thoughts with us.

In our case, we had two weddings, the first was the Nigerian traditional wedding and the second was the White wedding ceremony.

For us Nigerians, the Nigerian wedding is the more important wedding, it symbolizes a culture of respect, honor, family, and in our case the union between our different cultures and the history they both represent.

As my now husband is an Englishman, it was wonderful to see him and his friends dance into the garden and prostrate before my parents to receive their blessings, and it was also beautiful to receive the prayers from his parents on my part too.

I think the most amazing part of this wedding are the Nigerian outfits; these make the day colorful, and the music was Afro beats and on point. Everyone had smiles on their faces as it was the first time many of them had experienced this unique blend of cultures.

We shared Nigerian food during the reception and it was a hit! We also danced and our guests were prepared for spraying money the Nigerian way! The Nigerian cake was delicious too!

We adored every aspect of the Nigerian wedding ceremony, the traditional outfits, the music, and the rituals of the family blessings. The colors and intricate details of the clothing, the feather fans, the tables overflowing with fruit, and at the center of it all the bond between bride and groom. The union of two cultures, two families, and the swaying palms of Playa del Carmen, you’ve got to see all the photos, stunning multicultural wedding in Mexico inspiration!

The White Wedding: Mariachis, roses upon roses and an unforgettable fiesta for all

Part two of Dami and Angus’ Villa la Joya wedding was a traditional white wedding in the garden overlooking the turquoise Mexican Caribbean Sea. Mariachis played a welcome to the ceremony and guests were greeted by an arch of lush white roses and baby’s breath. Dami traded her traditional Nigerian wedding outfit for a white lace bridal gown with a simple and elegant headpiece and veil that framed her gorgeous face perfectly. Groom Angus was handsome in his smart suspenders and rocking the “no socks” look and cool shades. They exchanged vows in a joyous ceremony and were showered in flower petals as they walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

The reception was a dynamic celebration, Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen came alive with the dancing, music and laughter of the warm and loving friends and family of Dami and Angus. Raise a glass of champagne, take a shot of tequila and let the money fly, we loved everything about this multicultural wedding in Mexico!

Why choose Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen for your wedding in Mexico?

We were thrilled to play host and help put together the perfectly unique wedding of Dami and Angus. We asked them why they chose a wedding at Villa la Joya and they kindly shared this with us:

I had actually been searching for 2 weeks for the right place before I found Villa la Joya.  I was very particular about not wanting to get married on the sandy beach but I still hoped to have a view of the beach somewhere.

So when I found Villa la Joya, I knew it was the place. The pictures were stunning, and I could see myself getting married there. I showed my now husband the pictures and he was on board as well and that’s when we decided to go for it.

When we visited the place it was even better than we had expected. Mike the owner was incredible. He shared a lot of wisdom and we had an amazing experience speaking with him. Enrique and the staff welcomed us and made everything easy. I’m so glad I found this gem.

We extend our huge thanks and much gratitude to Dami and Angus for inviting Villa la Joya to host their multicultural wedding in Mexico. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.

They joined together with their closest family and friends for a dynamic celebration of love by the sea with pretty details and a whole lot of laughter and amor. We were delighted to host this very special day, Celeste and Joshua’s wedding in Playa del Carmen was an event to remember!

Destination wedding by the sea on a dreamy Mexican Caribbean day

The day began without a cloud in the sky, a perfect Playa del Carmen day for a wedding by the sea. Celeste and her bridesmaids shared champagne toasts as they got ready in their beautiful blue dresses and helped the bride into her stunning lace gown with a striking long veil. The bride shared a “first look” with her father on the steps of Villa la Joya, a moment full of warmth and love.

The bride and groom came together on the Villa la Joya balcony for a “first look” moment of their own, there were tears!! You can see by their faces the joy they are feeling and the love that flows between them, priceless photos. Groom Joshua wore a sharp beige suit with blue bow tie, a handsome look beside his beautiful bride!

Light, love and laughter in a romantic beachside wedding ceremony

With the light of the afternoon sun glowing, Celeste and Joshua exchanged vows and tied the knot forever in a romantic ceremony full of laughter and love. The wooden altar with pretty white flowers framed the couple perfectly with a backdrop of the ocean as they became husband and wife forever and ever.

After the ceremony, it was time to party! This was such a lively group and so much fun! With dinner under the fairy lights and a sweethearts table lush with roses and a light-up sign declaring LOVE, it was a perfect evening of celebration. The toasts were moving and caring and funny, this is a couple surrounded by people who love them very much and it was wonderful to share in these special moments.

Celeste and Joshua kicked off the party with newlyweds dance, then everyone hit the dance floor to get down all night long. Bow ties off and shoes tossed aside, the light-up dance floor was on fire, and we even got to see some breakdancing! A truly joyous occasion with an energy that lit up the faces of all in attendance.

We asked bride Celeste to share her thoughts with us on her Playa del Carmen wedding day at Villa la Joya….

I found Villa la Joya on Instagram. Mike the owner was very nice when I talked to him. Definitely best customer service and stunning place. It was my dream wedding.

Favorite part I will say the first look with my husband and dad… but overall everything was a beautiful and perfect. We had our family and friends together and that was such a blessing for us.

Dear future brides, enjoy the moment and the process. Don’t stress out, it can be overwhelming but at end you will have the best memories from the best day of your life.”

Big big gracias and all of our best wishes for a long and happy life together to newlyweds Celeste and Joshua!

Rachel and Alejandro get married at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen

Rachel and Alejandro get married at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen

Rachel and Alejandro get married at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen, muchas felicidades!

We were honored to host the beautiful wedding of Rachel and Alejandro at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen and we are excited to share their photos and love story with you. Weddings like this one guarantee you’ll be inspired and feeling all the romance of a fairy tale. Gorgeous bride and groom, unique details and a whole lot of love made this a wedding day we’ll never forget!

We asked the bride and groom to share their story with us, here is what they had to say:

“”One fateful evening Rachel stumbled upon a "Latino Night" in a bar and a tall, dark, and handsome Alejandro happened to catch her eye. He made a bee line to Rachel and they began talking for hours. As the night went on Rachel wondered if he was ever going to ask for her number finally, before leaving the two exchanged digits. The following day Rachel ended up moving for 2 months for a seasonal job followed by a Hawaii vacation. When Rachel returned to the Bay Area she sent Alejandro a, “Hey stranger" text. The two had their first date that week and the rest is history.”

Pretty in pink and boho chic destination wedding at Villa la Joya

There were so many incredible details about this wedding that we just loved, first off, let’s talk about that bridal gown, wow! Rachel was GLOWING in a gown that hugged all the right curves and a stunning veil that flowed and floated on the ocean breeze. Groom Alejandro was the definition of HANDSOME in his traditional tux and the expression on his face during the “First look” was absolutely priceless, pure amor for his bride.

We loved the decor for this wedding, with soft blush pink flowers and dried arrangements and wooden tables and chairs, even the pink glassware, simply divine and so unique! Pure Love Floral Design knocked this one out of the park, the altar, the table settings, and of course the bouquets, out of this world. Working together with Paradise Wedding Planners, Villa la Joya turned into a magical world of romance.

What made you decide on Villa La Joya?

“Scouting Instagram for hours during the height of the pandemic we kept finding ourselves back on the Villa La Joya Instagram page. We were so drawn to the elegance of the venue and the beauty of the ocean as the backdrop. We knew immediately this would be our venue.”

Laughter, tears and a grand celebration of love for Rachel and Alejandro

With a moving and emotional ceremony and lots of laughter during the toasts, the family and friends of Rachel and Alejandro made this a grand celebration of love with champagne toasts and tears of joy. The father/daughter dance on the light-up dance floor was a beautiful moment to cherish. With shots and champagne and a whole lot of dancing, even a little rain couldn't dampen the spirits of this incredible day.

“Exchanging our personal vows definitely has to be our favorite moment from the day. Rachel was even able to do some of her vows in Spanish. It also rained on our wedding day and we loved how our guests embraced the rain! It came down right as our last song played, it was such a magical moment!”

We send all our love and huge congratulations to the newlyweds and we thank you for inviting us to share in your Playa del Carmen wedding day! We see a bright future for you and wish you all the best for a life full of joy together.

To Veil or Not to Veil: Villa la Joya Weddings Bridal Inspiration

The history of the wedding veil is long and varied and means different things in different cultures and religions. While for many the veil is a symbol of purity and innocence, for others it has evolved into a fashion statement that signifies whatever the bride wants it to! A wedding veil adds an element of mystery and magic but is it right for you?

Once in a lifetime, when else do you get to wear a pretty veil?

The beauty of the bridal veil is that it is unique, a once in a lifetime chance to live out every girl’s dream. How many little girls pranced around with towels on their head playing bride? If you’ve always envisioned yourself in a long flowing veil, then just go for it! It’s your big day and it’s an opportunity you only get once.

Con: Outdoor weddings, wind and veils can be complicated!

While we envision our veils blowing lightly in the breeze, unfortunately, we can’t control the weather! A strong wind can interfere with your veil look getting caught up in the decor and creating a hazard! Stay away from candles and be careful with which way the wind blows!

Pro: Use the wind in your veil to create epic destination wedding photos

The breeze in your veil can be a benefit and not a hindrance if you get it blowing the right way! An ocean breeze and the veil floating and flowing from a gorgeous bride, some of the best wedding photos we’ve seen come with a beautiful veil moment. The best Playa del Carmen wedding photographers know exactly how to capture these moments when the wind and light is just perfect and the veil frames the bride’s beauty like magic.

The big reveal! A wedding veil creates drama and romance

The traditional “reveal” of the bride at the altar with the lifting of the veil is the fairy tale moment you’ve been waiting for. Everyone’s heart is aflutter as the veil is lifted to reveal the beautiful bride, the groom at her side at the altar with a look of wonder. Locking eyes with love, a magical moment when the veil is lifted, pure romance!

Caro Navarro Photography

Many couples choose to do a “first look” photo shoot and a veil is the PERFECT accessory for amazing photos. The groom awaits on the Villa la Joya balcony and the bride glows, inviting her love to look beneath the veil and share an intimate moment of pure amor.

Con: Wedding veils are just too fussy for a destination wedding outdoors

A wedding veil can be a bother, a nuisance that causes more anxiety than peace. It’s another accessory that you need to pack and then preserve without crushing. Veils can blow in your face at exactly the wrong moment and become a negative focal point if you can’t say your vows with lace in your face. Many of our Villa la Joya brides are looking for a “less fussy” experience in a destination wedding and a wedding veil is just “too much” for the themes of our outdoor weddings with a more laid-back vibe.

Wedding veils can change up your bridal look from ceremony to reception

Your wedding day is your chance to shine and a wardrobe change is a fun way to show off your style. A veil is a great way to change up your look throughout the day. A long veil for the ceremony can be changed to a shorter veil look, a tiara or a whole new hairstyle with bling or flowers for the reception. Veil on, veil off, it’s up to you gorgeous bride!

Are you inspired by these Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding photos? Are you Team Veil or Team Not to Veil? Will you wear a veil to your own beach wedding in Playa del Carmen? Contact us today and let us know, we LOVE hearing both sides of the debate and can’t wait to hear your ideas and make your destination wedding in Mexico a dream come true.
