To Veil or Not to Veil: Villa la Joya Weddings Bridal Inspiration

The history of the wedding veil is long and varied and means different things in different cultures and religions. While for many the veil is a symbol of purity and innocence, for others it has evolved into a fashion statement that signifies whatever the bride wants it to! A wedding veil adds an element of mystery and magic but is it right for you?

Once in a lifetime, when else do you get to wear a pretty veil?

The beauty of the bridal veil is that it is unique, a once in a lifetime chance to live out every girl’s dream. How many little girls pranced around with towels on their head playing bride? If you’ve always envisioned yourself in a long flowing veil, then just go for it! It’s your big day and it’s an opportunity you only get once.

Con: Outdoor weddings, wind and veils can be complicated!

While we envision our veils blowing lightly in the breeze, unfortunately, we can’t control the weather! A strong wind can interfere with your veil look getting caught up in the decor and creating a hazard! Stay away from candles and be careful with which way the wind blows!

Pro: Use the wind in your veil to create epic destination wedding photos

The breeze in your veil can be a benefit and not a hindrance if you get it blowing the right way! An ocean breeze and the veil floating and flowing from a gorgeous bride, some of the best wedding photos we’ve seen come with a beautiful veil moment. The best Playa del Carmen wedding photographers know exactly how to capture these moments when the wind and light is just perfect and the veil frames the bride’s beauty like magic.

The big reveal! A wedding veil creates drama and romance

The traditional “reveal” of the bride at the altar with the lifting of the veil is the fairy tale moment you’ve been waiting for. Everyone’s heart is aflutter as the veil is lifted to reveal the beautiful bride, the groom at her side at the altar with a look of wonder. Locking eyes with love, a magical moment when the veil is lifted, pure romance!

Many couples choose to do a “first look” photo shoot and a veil is the PERFECT accessory for amazing photos. The groom awaits on the Villa la Joya balcony and the bride glows, inviting her love to look beneath the veil and share an intimate moment of pure amor.

Con: Wedding veils are just too fussy for a destination wedding outdoors

A wedding veil can be a bother, a nuisance that causes more anxiety than peace. It’s another accessory that you need to pack and then preserve without crushing. Veils can blow in your face at exactly the wrong moment and become a negative focal point if you can’t say your vows with lace in your face. Many of our Villa la Joya brides are looking for a “less fussy” experience in a destination wedding and a wedding veil is just “too much” for the themes of our outdoor weddings with a more laid-back vibe.

Wedding veils can change up your bridal look from ceremony to reception

Your wedding day is your chance to shine and a wardrobe change is a fun way to show off your style. A veil is a great way to change up your look throughout the day. A long veil for the ceremony can be changed to a shorter veil look, a tiara or a whole new hairstyle with bling or flowers for the reception. Veil on, veil off, it’s up to you gorgeous bride!

Are you inspired by these Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding photos? Are you Team Veil or Team Not to Veil? Will you wear a veil to your own beach wedding in Playa del Carmen? Contact us today and let us know, we LOVE hearing both sides of the debate and can’t wait to hear your ideas and make your destination wedding in Mexico a dream come true.

Crazy in Love: Mariya and Dimitri Get Married in Mexico

Gorgeous couple Mariya and Dimitri are crazy in love and it shows! We can’t wait to inspire you with their real wedding in Mexico photos and love story! They were united forever surrounded by their closest family and friends in a white wedding at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen, let’s meet the newlyweds.

Love at First Sight and a Dream Wedding in Mexico

We asked Mariya to share their tale with us, we adore a story of love at first sight:

“Dmitry and I met at our friend’s house. Our first date was incredible, he picked me up on a sport bike and showed me the city of Ottawa and nearby areas. Later in the evening, we watched the sunset from the top of the mountain at an altitude of 355 meters. That natural beauty of Gatineau Park will forever stay in my heart. We fell in love with each other and never separated from that day onwards.”

What made you decide on a Mexico wedding at Villa La Joya Playa del Carmen?

“We browsed the internet for days in search of our perfect destination wedding location. When we saw Villa La Joya's website, gorgeous pictures of the villa, and such a breathtaking view of the ocean, we knew right away that this is the one and only location we want. That was literally our "dreams come true" moment.”

It was a nice day for a white wedding in Mexico at Villa la Joya

We loved all the details of this beautiful wedding, all in white and blush and gold, simply magic with the backdrop of the blue Mexican Caribbean. The flowers were lush and abundant, the geometric altar framed the ceremony perfectly. Bride Mariya was glowing in a stunning veil and a dress that showed off her enviable figure and groom Dimitri looked super sharp in white, loved the suspenders! With guests in white, it was a nice day for a white wedding indeed!

An intimate destination wedding in Mexico, the day was full of emotion and love and delicious treats. The caterers did a magnificent job, the sweets table was a huge hit. The flowers by Cherry Blossom were tropical and fun, we loved the set up with the neon “Crazy in Love” sign for photo ops and the floating lantern bouquets.

Lighting up the night with a joyous wedding reception in Mexico at Villa la Joya

Newlyweds Mariya and Dimitri sure know how to throw a great party, this was a joyous wedding reception in Mexico at Villa la Joya! Bride Mariya knocked us out with her second look of the day, a two-piece white bridal ensemble that was perfect for a destination wedding reception and dancing all night long. With a light-up dance floor and flowing drinks, a grand time was had by all and the bride and groom showed everyone how to get down and boogie when you are “crazy in love”.

We would like to thank Mariya and Dimitri for inviting us to host their wedding at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen, it was an honor and a pleasure. We wish you both all the best for a lifetime of continued joy and happiness.

Melissa and Nick Get Married: Real Family Wedding in Mexico

High school sweethearts Melissa and Nick brought their families together for a celebration of love at their Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding. A traditional Catholic ceremony with the blessings of all who love them followed by an unforgettable party at poolside, we are so grateful to Melissa and Nick for allowing us to host this truly moving real family wedding in Mexico. Let’s have a look and get inspired!

Getting ready and the “First Look”: Intimate wedding moments at Villa la Joya with Melissa and Nick

Some of the most important moments of a wedding day happen when you least realize it, the straightening of a tie or the adjustment of the veil. Getting ready with the bridal party is a wonderful time to celebrate the love of family and friends and this amor shone through with bride and groom Melissa and Nick.

Bride Melissa was absolutely stunning with her natural dark looks and hair and makeup by Hello Beauty MX. We LOVED her bridal gown, perfect for a beach wedding, the diamondback style was a knockout. The moment with her son under the veil was totally priceless. Groom Nick was looking a little nervous before the “First Look” moment, adjusting his tuxedo before his bride came and took his breath away. We love these moments.

Traditional religious ceremony destination wedding and real blessings of love

The traditional ceremony of Melissa and Nick was just gorgeous, Padre Jose V Arruda officiated and invited all in attendance to share their blessings upon the couple. Attended by bridesmaids in elegant champagne gowns and groomsmen in formal tuxedos, Melissa and Nick declared their love and united their families forever.

The portrait session after the ceremony was such a delight, so many genuine smiles and a whole lot of laughter around the grounds of Villa la Joya. The flowers by Cherry Blossom were abundant and beautiful, fresh white blooms and tropical sprays, divine! The family shots of Melissa Nick and their precious son are simply magical.

It’s not a Mexican wedding without mariachis and tequila! Celebration time at this Villa la Joya reception

Mariachis are a must for a grand Mexican celebration of love, with a table set up with shots of tequila it’s the best way to kick off a Mexico wedding reception. The tables were set with more beautiful flowers from Cherry Blossom and the cake by La Migaja was a stunning masterpiece. Melissa and Nick sure know how to throw a party!

We LOVED the ideas for a family-friendly destination wedding, with a kids’ table just their size with special activities and a tent for “resting”, the kids were VIP guests for sure.

We send mucho amor and much gratitude to Melissa and Nick and their guests, we had a wonderful time hosting your real Mexico wedding at Villa la Joya! We wish you all the best for a magnificent lifetime together as a happy family!

Leslie & Eleazar’s Crazy in Love Wedding in Mexico

Leslie & Eleazar’s Crazy in Love Wedding in Mexico

Oh young love! Beautiful couple Leslie & Eleazar brought their nearest and dearest to their wedding in Mexico and we were thrilled to host the intimate “Crazy in Love” event at Villa la Joya, Playa del Carmen. The photos tell the story of love and a great fiesta, this was a super fun wedding! Ready to be inspired? Let’s go.

The “getting ready” with the bride and groom - Cozy family wedding in Mexico

Bride Leslie spent the morning getting ready with her family and best friends, a multi-generational gathering to start the day full of love. Leslie was aglow, her dark beauty set off in a daring and absolutely stunning wedding gown. The bridal bouquet by Cherry Blossom Florist  was a knockout, lush blooms in white and succulent greens, GORGE.

The whole wedding party was super chic, all the groomsmen in their black tuxedos and groom Eleazar rocking a white tux with black lapels. The bridesmaids were in a range of dress styles that shared the same soft tone of blue and the maid of honor wore a soft pink gown, lovely! All the ladies carried the most beautiful bouquets for a Playa del Carmen wedding, and Cherry Blossom Florists really made Leslie’s floral dreams a reality.

This was a family celebration, we love seeing kids at destination weddings! They bring a youthful energy and we were delighted to see the pretty little flower girl and handsome ring bearers all decked out in their finest. They looked amazing and were such a fun part of the day.

Leslie and Eleazar’s Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding ceremony and reception

The wedding ceremony on the steps of Villa La Joya was just gorgeous, we love seeing how couples can turn the villa architecture into their own vision of romance and magic. The elegant backdrop, the lush greens and floral arrangements, every detail was beautiful. Leslie and Eleazar exchanged vows in a moving ceremony on the stairs, joining together forever “Crazy in Love”.

The wedding reception was a blast, we loved the details like the neon sign glowing “Crazy in Love” behind the sweethearts’ table and the light up floor. With tequila flowing and good spirits all around the guests rocked out on the dance floor. Leslie and Eleazar kicked it up and had a joyous celebration, so much unforgettable fun.

Why choose a wedding in Mexico?: We love going to Mexico for vacation and decided to give our family and friends a reason to go to Mexico as most of them have never been before. Intimate Villa Wedding in Playa del Carmen

Intimate Villa Wedding in Playa del Carmen

Intimate Villa Wedding in Playa del Carmen, felicidades Tayla and Shaun!

We are so grateful to have hosted Tayla and Shaun’s wedding at Villa la Joya, Playa del Carmen, so much amor and so many beautiful details. This is a case of a happy ending arising from tough obstacles as they had their original wedding plans canceled for Covid! The pandemic brought this beautiful couple to us and we were delighted to make their intimate destination wedding dreams finally come true. We know the photos will inspire you, such a beautiful love story! Let’s have a look!

Why did you choose Mexico for your destination wedding? What made you decide on Villa La Joya?

10 years ago, Mexico was our first holiday and we both said to each other on that holiday, “We will get married here one day” A friend of a friend from England showed me pictures of Villa la Joya after I had already planned my destination wedding, I was filled with so much regret, then covid hit out the blue and my wedding plans were all cancelled. I knew this was the moment! I switched all my plans and followed my dream of getting married at Villa la Joya. I love the quote “que sera sera” (what will be will be) and everything happens for a reason, so really everything fell into place just how it was meant to be. - Bride Tayla

Small family wedding ceremony in Playa del Carmen: Cozy elegance celebrating love

The morning of the wedding brought sunshine and joy to Playa del Carmen as the girls got ready together and enjoyed a “bridesmaid first look”. A very handsome little boy got a “first look” at his mommy the bride too, we got a little misty with these emotional moments. Tayla was absolutely stunning in a fabulous gown by Zavana Bridal, breathtaking really and the photos of her together with her baby and simply magic.

The theme of the day was white and gold with beautiful white roses from Cherry Blossom Florists bringing their elegance and aroma. This was an intimate affair, only the closest friends and family sharing in the celebration as Tayla and Shaun exchanged vows by the sea under a rose-covered arch. We adore a small wedding, there is such a feeling of warmth and a special vibe when love is celebrated with the inner circle.

Intimate Playa del Carmen wedding reception at Villa la Joya, muchas felicidades Tayla and Shaun

Tayla and Shaun inspired us with their portrait session on the terrace at “magic hour”, this is such a fabulous alternative to a “first look” session. The light from the sun couldn’t be outshone by the glow of love from this great couple and Villa la Joya’s architecture was a lovely backdrop for gorge Playa del Carmen wedding photos.

The wedding reception that followed was intimate, two beautiful tables for loved ones with abundant roses, touches of gold and super cute mini Don Julio bottles. Moving speeches, emotional first dance and a good time was had by all. This was a very special event and we thank Tayla and Shaun for inviting us to the celebration. We wish all three of you a wonderful life together full of happiness and joy!

Wedding advice from bride to bride?

Go with your heart, do everything that makes you happy, enjoy the moment, it goes so quick, don’t stress about the little things, honestly from one bride to another those little things go Unnoticed on the day and aren’t worth the stress.” - Tayla
