The pandemic brought this beautiful couple to us and we were delighted to make their intimate destination wedding dreams finally come true. Why did you choose Mexico for your destination wedding? What made you decide on Villa La Joya?

10 years ago, Mexico was our first holiday and we both said to each other on that holiday, “We will get married here one day” A friend of a friend from England showed me pictures of Villa la Joya after I had already planned my destination wedding, I was filled with so much regret, then covid hit out the blue and my wedding plans were all cancelled. I knew this was the moment! I switched all my plans and followed my dream of getting married at Villa la Joya. I love the quote “que sera sera” (what will be will be) and everything happens for a reason, so really everything fell into place just how it was meant to be. - Bride Tayla

Small family wedding ceremony in Playa del Carmen: Cozy elegance celebrating love

The morning of the wedding brought sunshine and joy to Playa del Carmen as the girls got ready together and enjoyed a “bridesmaid first look”. A very handsome little boy got a “first look” at his mommy the bride too, we got a little misty with these emotional moments. Tayla was absolutely stunning in a fabulous gown by Zavana Bridal, breathtaking really and the photos of her together with her baby and simply magic.

The theme of the day was white and gold with beautiful white roses from Cherry Blossom Florists bringing their elegance and aroma. This was an intimate affair, only the closest friends and family sharing in the celebration as Tayla and Shaun exchanged vows by the sea under a rose-covered arch. We adore a small wedding, there is such a feeling of warmth and a special vibe when love is celebrated with the inner circle.

Tayla and Shaun inspired us with their portrait session on the terrace at “magic hour”, this is such a fabulous alternative to a “first look” session. The light from the sun couldn’t be outshone by the glow of love from this great couple and Villa la Joya’s architecture was a lovely backdrop for gorge Playa del Carmen wedding photos. 

The wedding reception that followed was intimate, two beautiful tables for loved ones with abundant roses, touches of gold and super cute mini Don Julio bottles. Moving speeches, emotional first dance and a good time was had by all. This was a very special event and we thank Tayla and Shaun for inviting us to the celebration. We wish all three of you a wonderful life together full of happiness and joy!

I think everyone is still recovering from Rachael and Dylan’s GORGEOUS Playa del Carmen Villa la Joya wedding! What a fiesta! We were just so excited to host this stunning event and we can’t wait to share this love story in photos. Ready? Let’s celebrate the amor of these beautiful newlyweds.

The “getting ready” part of this wedding adventure starts off with all the pretty bridesmaids and Rachael enjoying some special time together. Rachael had a “first look” moment in the Villa la Joya garden with her father that was super moving and emotional, we love this idea but bring tissues! 

Racheal showed off her natural beauty with flowing hair and a magnificent bridal gown, oh man is that dress breathtaking! The bridesmaids shone in champagne and carried simple but elegant bouquets of roses. Dylan looked muy guapo in his white smoking jacket tux with all his boys in black beside him, fantastic bridal party style inspiration for a Mexican villa wedding.

Why did you choose Mexico for your destination wedding?

We asked Rachael why they chose a destination wedding in Mexico and here is what she shared with us: 

We wanted a special day, international, where our friends and family could spend several days with us celebrating and enjoying a Holiday! We decided on Mexico while we were on vacation in Playa Del Carmen in early 2021. We loved the food, culture, people, and music! It was a perfect choice for us!

When we asked why they chose a wedding at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen, here is what she said:

We wanted something exclusive for our guests, the "resort wedding" wasn't really ever an option for us. We wanted our day to be private and special just for us.

This was a truly special day, we adored all the details and the warmth and love of all those who celebrated this intimate wedding in Playa del Carmen. This was an exclusive and private affair and that is just how we like it and it is why we only host one wedding per day. Rachael and Dylan’s love was all that was needed to make our garden glow.

After a portrait session with Cancun wedding photographer Monica Lopez, the party really got started with tequila shots and the open bar. Toasts were made, glasses raised in laughter and some tears, there was a whole lot of love with the emotional speeches.

Bride Rachael changed into a sassy party dress, everyone hit the dance floor and the tequila started flowing freely! Dancing the night away and digging into some delicious churros, watching Rachael and Dylan together was magic. We are so happy they invited us to share in their day and host their private villa wedding at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen!

Secily and Daniel Get Married in Mexico: A Love Story at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen

Secily and Daniel were simply meant to be and meant to get married in Mexico. With their first date in 2018 at a Mexican restaurant, four Mexican vacations, and a proposal in Playa Mujeres, it was clear that a wedding in Mexico was the best way to celebrate their amor! We were so happy to meet Secily and Daniel and share in the emotions of their Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding. 

The day kicked off with a super fun “getting ready” time at our Villa la Joya condo, this bridal party was full of laughs and great energy and the champagne flowed. The first look of Secily and Daniel was magic, the couple shared private words on the Villa la Joya balcony with an intimate moment to calm their nerves. The photos will bring a little tear to your eye!

Secily and Daniel’s gorgeous wedding ceremony took place on the steps of Villa la Joya with an elegant setting. The lush pillars of flowers and the golden chairs welcomed family and friends to an intimate space of celebration. Secily’s entrance from the Villa la Joya arch created an unforgettable image of a stunning bride coming down the aisle. The bride and groom exchanged moving vows surrounded by love and light and the warmth of their nearest and dearest.

Why choose a Villa La Joya Playa del Carmen wedding?

We asked Secily and Daniel what went into making their decision to get married in Mexico at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen:

When choosing our venue, it was important to be somewhere that felt both intimate and private. We knew if we got married at a resort there would be hundreds of other hotel guests watching from their balconies, and we wanted our wedding to feel exclusive to us and our guests. Additionally, there are so few venue options in Mexico that aren’t right on the beach and while we loved having a view of the ocean, we knew we didn’t want to get married in the sand. The Villa was the perfect mix of everything, we had privacy, luxury, flexibility and a beautiful view of the ocean and beach.

After the elegant ceremony on the front steps, the party moved to the seaside gardens of Villa la Joya for an unforgettable wedding reception. White roses everywhere, mariachi serenades and a yummy dessert table overflowing with treats, what a way to celebrate love! After dinner and toasts, everyone made their way to the dance floor and got their groove on and watched fireworks light up the night sky over the sea. 

Something that was both emotional and special for Secily was having the cigar roller. Secily’s father passed away a few years ago so he sadly couldn’t be there to witness our day. Her father, Steve, loved Mexico and loved smoking cigars so it was important for us to find ways to incorporate his spirit into our day. We chose to have a cigar roller come and roll cigars for everyone with custom cigar labels with his face on it. The cigar table was the perfect tribute to him and was a special way for his presence to be felt during the wedding.

We had such a great time with Secily and Daniel, it was a pleasure to watch their dreams become reality as they created their perfect wedding day. The planning of this day was full of creative fun and we were so grateful for the chance to host the newlyweds and their loved ones at their Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding. 

From the moment we contacted the Villa, they were friendly, attentive, and so accommodating. Many other venues we spoke to were difficult to get a hold of and had a lot of strict rules around planning. We loved that Villa gave us complete creative freedom to decorate and celebrate however we wanted. It allowed us to truly create the wedding of our dreams without limits.  During the wedding, all our guests kept asking how we found the Villa and couldn’t believe how incredible it was. Everyone was blown away!

Katy & Justin’s Private Villa Wedding in the Riviera Maya

Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen set the scene for the romantic wedding day of Katy and Justin. This sweet couple from Texas met in 2017, hanging out every day since, traveling together to Cancun and falling head over heels and deciding to spend forever together. Their shared love of Mexico made choosing a Riviera Maya private villa wedding an easy decision and we were so glad to welcome them and their loved ones to Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen. 

What made you decide on a Villa La Joya private venue wedding in the Riviera Maya?

We asked Katy why they chose a Villa la Joya private wedding and she kindly shared her thoughts with us: 

The only thing I was dead set on about having a wedding in Mexico was that I wanted a totally private venue. We’ve been to many resorts around the world, and have seen weddings happen with tons of people in the background watching. I started researching “private venues in Riviera Maya” and only a couple came up. Villa La Joya was definitely the most beautiful and I booked on the spot without even visiting! Justin and I took a trip down to Mexico two month laters, and we knew we picked the perfect place.

The photos of Katy and Justin’s big day tell an amazing story and are sure to inspire your own wedding daydreams. We loved the bride and her party getting ready in their adorable black and white short dresses, a striking combination, the photos are super fun. Bride Katy glowed in her ballerina tulle bridal gown and the handsome groom Justin wore a dapper blue suit. Their first look moment brought a tear to our eyes! The bridal party fashion was an ode to shades of blue, from dark to light and in a variety of styles showing off the uniqueness of each bridesmaid.

The ceremony by the sea was emotional and moving, the families joining together in love. The setting of white and blush flowers, dark woods and lush greens framed the newlyweds perfectly. The casual seating areas and the live saxophone for cocktails got everyone in the mood for a fabulous private venue wedding reception in the Riviera Maya.

Toasts, tears, laughter and churros: A grand time was had by all at the Riviera Maya wedding reception of Katy and Justin!

As the sun went down, the party really got started. The toasts had everyone laughing and crying and the bonds of family and friend love shone through. The dance floor was on fire and everyone enjoyed the churro treats to refuel for more boogie. Katy and Justin’s send off with sparklers was a great way to top off the magical day. 

Everyone says the day goes by so fast, and it was true! The most emotional moments had to be the first look before the ceremony with both my dad and with Justin. It hit all of us in that moment that we were officially going to be married and our families would be joined together. I would recommend a first look to any bride and groom as it was really special to experience before the day began. The funniest moment had to be Justin carrying our leftover wedding cake back to the resort after the wedding and dancing with the cake late into the night!

Destination Wedding Playa del Carmen 2022: Jade and Warren Finally Tie the Knot

Destination weddings in post-covid times have an extra sense of magic, couples who put their dreams on hold for the pandemic finally get to have their big day! We were so excited to meet Jade and Warren and to finally host their destination wedding in Playa del Carmen in 2022. With a beautiful ceremony and an elegant reception lit by a lunar eclipse, it was the perfect day to celebrate the forever love of these high school sweethearts.

Post-covid destination wedding in Mexico: Where to get married in Playa del Carmen

Mexico was one of the first countries to open to travel post-covid and we are so happy to be hosting so many destination weddings again! We are up and running at full and delighted to meet so many couples in love who are ready to celebrate amor. We asked Jade and Warren why they chose a destination wedding in Mexico (so many reasons, we know!):

We visited Mexico in 2014, and had the most amazing holiday. We always said if we were to get married we would love to do so in Mexico! We then got engaged in 2018 and still had the vision of Mexico being the place, so we did some research and came across Villa La Joya. As soon as we saw the venue we fell in love, we got in touch with Mike and later that year booked the venue for 2021. Then covid struck and we had to delay a year! We were upset about this, however now having our day this year, it was 100% worth the wait! - Jade

The whole wedding day at VLJ was amazing, honestly more magical than I could have ever wished for. Everybody involved in our wedding was just incredible, words can’t describe how special every single one of them made the day what it was. 

 My advice to other brides would be if you're in doubt about this Playa del Carmen wedding venue DO NOT doubt it, it’s the most surreal day here! Make sure you think of yourselves, don’t try to please everybody else, it never happens and you tend to overthink things that won’t be a thing to worry about on the day! More importantly, make sure you get the most amazing wedding planner- Kristee couldn’t have done a thing more for me, amazing woman!- Jade

Did you have a favorite moment? Is there anything you would have changed about your Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen wedding?

To pick my favourite moment is difficult as the whole day was unreal! I mean we had a total eclipse that evening, that was insane! The entertainer MC Aldo Spirit was amazing, he created so much fun at our wedding! There is not one thing I would have changed about our special day, from the moment of arriving to leaving it honestly was more than we could have dreamed of. - Jade
