This super couple met through mutual friends in Houston and are now happily united forever as husband and wife! We were delighted to host their Mexico destination wedding and we are happy to share this real wedding experience to inspire future brides and to share the love of Gaby and Nando. 

We asked Gaby why the couple chose a Mexico destination wedding and she said:

“We love Mexico and their food. And since we are from Nicaragua and Bolivia, it was the perfect way to bring together our family and friends and still have a taste of our Latin culture.”

Gaby and Nando were such fun, young and bright and oh so in love with a beautiful future ahead of them. We LOVED Gaby’s “bridal kicks”, super cute choice instead of heels for a long day of being on your feet and dancing and her off the shoulder dress was divine! Nando looked sharp in his blue suit and the ceremony at the grand entrance of Villa la Joya was simply perfect, beautiful and moving.

Why choose a wedding at Villa la Joya? Bride Gaby tells us “The beach views and terrace were the perfect backdrop for the wedding we envisioned. Since it’s a private home, we were able to bring the vendors we wanted and keep everything private and custom.”

After the wedding ceremony in the front, the party moved to the beachside of Villa la Joya for a fiesta and celebration of love that had everyone on the dance floor. Fireworks lit up the night sky, photographic memories captured by the custom neon sign and a wonderful time was had by all. We extend our gratitude with a big MUCHAS GRACIAS to Gaby and Nando for sharing this beautiful day with us at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen.

The Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya of Jillian and Marko was a family celebration of LOVE and we are delighted to share this real wedding with you. This is one of those perfect wedding days we always remember, full of love, light and authentic joy with unique details creating a magical setting. 

Jillian and Marko chose a destination wedding in Mexico in order to have an extended celebration with their family and friends. With pre-wedding events like a catamaran cruise at sunset, it was the ideal way to bring everyone together and create memories for a lifetime. Everybody had time to really get to know one another and the wedding day itself was an intimate and cozy event full of warmth and amor.

Bride Jillian is truly stunning and ST Makeup Artistry of Playa del Carmen created a makeup and hair design that enhanced all her natural beauty. Her incredible dress from Pronovias was a unique geometric masterpiece, elegant and sexy! The “first look” photos with Marko looking handsome in his grey suit and pink tie are priceless. Bride and groom saw each other in their wedding finery and the world simply disappeared as they gazed into each other’s eyes. Swoon.

Jillian and Marko’s Villa la Joya Riviera Maya Wedding: Geometry and Color Pops

We love working with Paradise Wedding and Events, they are tops in Riviera Maya wedding coordinators. They worked together with Cherry Blossom Florists in setting the scene for love at Jillian and Marko’s wedding at Villa la Joya. We absolutely ADORED the geometric arch at the altar with the pops of color from the variety of pink flowers. The geometric patterns from the dress repeated in the decor was marvelous. 

The ceremony was a family affair with Jillian’s brother officiating, making it very personal and touching (yes, we always have tissues of course). Pretty little flower girls and handsome ring bearers for “security”, bridesmaids in gorgeous teal gowns and moving vows, thank you to Jillian and Marko for sharing this moment with us.

Madison and Ryan are a young and gorgeous couple and they both looked stunning on their wedding day. Madison’s dark beauty was framed in a soft updo and makeup by Sandy Mendez and that dress, wow, that dress. The design by Eddy K Bridal was sensuous and luscious, with an out of this world train. Madison was magnificent. Ryan was looking handsome in his light blue suit, the first look photos of the couple are truly priceless with their faces all aglow. Destination beach weddings are the perfect opportunity to show off your fashion sense, your curves and have fun with your wardrobe for the big day. Leave the boring formal frocks at home, a Villa la Joya wedding is your chance to GLOW and play with colors and silhouettes that show off all your best assets. 

First off, think fabrics, LIGHT fabrics. The heat and humidity in Playa del Carmen are not satin friendly, really. Think chiffon and silk and cotton voile, fabrics that flow in the breeze and let your skin breathe. Not only is it more comfortable in the heat, but flowy fabrics in the ocean breezes look incredible in photos! Give us a twirl!

What to wear to a beach wedding in Playa del Carmen

Bring on the colors and patterns! Make it bright and fun and use the tropical vibes as inspiration. Some couples like to set a dress code and ask for “all-white” for example, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, you don’t want to be in lemon yellow in a crowd of white. Speaking of white, unless it is requested, obviously you’ll want to avoid white dresses, don’t be that girl. While black is totally chic and slimming, it may prove to be too hot in tropical climates, but you do you! You’ll want to buy a dress you will wear again and again, careful shopping will add a beautiful new piece to your wardrobe for other occasions.

This is a chance to show off that beach body you’ve worked so hard for, show some skin with a sexy halter or backless dress, ideal for a destination wedding at Villa la Joya. Long flowy maxi dresses are light and fantastic for dancing the night away. Avoid styles that restrict your movements like tight skirts or anything too tight on the shoulders, you’re going to get your groove on and get down and get your hands up, make that fashion comfortable!

There are a few things to consider when shopping for shoes for a beach wedding. It’s going to be hot, there will be times where you may have to stand for a long while. A pair of sexy, strappy, spiked-heeled sandals are definitely in order, but you may want to bring a sweet pair of flats for dancing or difficult terrain. If you are going to show your toes, be sure to enjoy a good pedi before the wedding and be sexy from head to toe.

Accessorize with sparkle and bling! Catch the sunlight on jewels that shine and the sparkle of silver and gold are always appropriate for a beach wedding. You’ll want to invest in a fabulous purse of course, make sure you have room for everything you need like tissues for crying and lipstick for touch ups.
