What to Wear to a Destination Wedding

What to Wear to a Destination Wedding

What to Wear to a Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen

Destination beach weddings are the perfect opportunity to show off your fashion sense, your curves and have fun with your wardrobe for the big day. Leave the boring formal frocks at home, a Villa la Joya wedding is your chance to GLOW and play with colors and silhouettes that show off all your best assets.

First off, think fabrics, LIGHT fabrics. The heat and humidity in Playa del Carmen are not satin friendly, really. Think chiffon and silk and cotton voile, fabrics that flow in the breeze and let your skin breathe. Not only is it more comfortable in the heat, but flowy fabrics in the ocean breezes look incredible in photos! Give us a twirl!

What to wear to a beach wedding in Playa del Carmen

Bring on the colors and patterns! Make it bright and fun and use the tropical vibes as inspiration. Some couples like to set a dress code and ask for “all-white” for example, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, you don’t want to be in lemon yellow in a crowd of white. Speaking of white, unless it is requested, obviously you’ll want to avoid white dresses, don’t be that girl. While black is totally chic and slimming, it may prove to be too hot in tropical climates, but you do you! You’ll want to buy a dress you will wear again and again, careful shopping will add a beautiful new piece to your wardrobe for other occasions.

This is a chance to show off that beach body you’ve worked so hard for, show some skin with a sexy halter or backless dress, ideal for a destination wedding at Villa la Joya. Long flowy maxi dresses are light and fantastic for dancing the night away. Avoid styles that restrict your movements like tight skirts or anything too tight on the shoulders, you’re going to get your groove on and get down and get your hands up, make that fashion comfortable!

Beach wedding fashion ideas: Shoes! We all loooove shoes!

There are a few things to consider when shopping for shoes for a beach wedding. It’s going to be hot, there will be times where you may have to stand for a long while. You may be walking on sand or uneven surfaces, you are going to DANCE and you want your legs to look amazing. A pair of sexy, strappy, spiked-heeled sandals are definitely in order, but you may want to bring a sweet pair of flats for dancing or difficult terrain. If you are going to show your toes, be sure to enjoy a good pedi before the wedding and be sexy from head to toe.

Accessorize with sparkle and bling! Catch the sunlight on jewels that shine and the sparkle of silver and gold are always appropriate for a beach wedding. You’ll want to invest in a fabulous purse of course, make sure you have room for everything you need like tissues for crying and lipstick for touch ups.

Private Villa Wedding in Mexico | Kylie and Matt at Villa la Joya

The private villa wedding in Mexico of Kylie and Matt was a beautiful day at Villa la Joya, full of family fun and a whole lot of love. With wedding guests spread out on both coasts of the USA, the couple decided on a destination wedding at Villa la Joya to bring everyone together. The couple’s first vacation together was to Playa del Carmen and they were excited to return to declare their forever love under the palm trees with an ocean breeze and surrounded by their closest family and friends.

Post-covid Destination Wedding at Villa la Joya: You Can’t Keep a Good Love Down

The covid-19 pandemic added an unexpected complication to many destination weddings in the last year but Kylie and Matt didn’t let the challenges get them down. The guest list may have been smaller than expected because of travel limitations, but this allowed the couple to have meaningful moments with all those who were able to attend. The hugs were extra special and the families were able to unite and bond on a joyous occasion of love.

Paradise Weddings & Events helped the couple ensure all the details were just right, it is especially useful in crazy covid times to have one of the best wedding planners in Playa del Carmen on your team!

Simply Elegant: A Private Villa Wedding in Mexico Showcased The Love of Kylie and Matt

Raven-haired beauty Kylie was a vision of loveliness in a stunning gown from Ines di Santo and hair and makeup by Zoe Elizabeth. Groom Matt was looking handsome in his dark blue suit, they are truly a gorgeous couple. Cherry Blossom Floral Design created a soft and pretty look at Villa la Joya. The simple and elegant decor in blush shades and the turquoise sea were the perfect showcase for the vibrant love of Kylie and Matt.

The ceremony was moving, the reception full of laughter and good times, dancing and speeches and a fun party on the dance floor. We loved the personalized coconuts by Ko’Coo and everybody loved the churro cart by Los Pockets! We are so grateful to have been a part of this magical wedding day, thanks so much to Kylie and Matt for allowing us to host your private villa wedding in Mexico at Villa la Joya.

Destination Wedding Cake Trends 2021

Destination Wedding Cake Trends 2021

Destination Wedding Cake Trends 2021: More Than Just a Sweet Dessert

Wedding cakes are part of the tradition but they don’t need to be “traditional”!  The typical white confection of multiple tiers with icing flowers will always have its place but 2021 is showing us some exciting wedding cake trends that just make sense in the “new world” of post-covid destination weddings.

Destination weddings in 2021 have all been affected by the pandemic, leading to smaller guest lists, more intimate events, and extra special attention paid to “keeping it covid-free and sanitary”. It is an exciting time to “think outside the box” and come up with creative ways to modernize the traditional wedding cake.

Post-covid Destination Wedding Cakes at Villa la Joya: Size Matters

The number one trend in wedding cakes in 2021 is keeping it small. The days of a ten-tier cake being cut and served to 200 guests are pretty much over and it is time for mini-cakes, individually packaged desserts and personalized details. Couples are able to enjoy the tradition of cutting the cake but with a whole new way of sharing the sweetness with their guests.

We LOVE the small wedding cakes we’ve seen at Villa la Joya, decorated to look like marble or “blinged out” with sparkles and shine. The wedding cake designers in Playa del Carmen are truly phenomenal!

Edible Art: The Wedding Cakes of 2021

With guest lists becoming smaller but budgets staying the same, destination wedding couples can splurge on the details like never before. Creating a custom work of art for the cake cutting is the perfect way to personalize a tradition and truly make it magically yours. Custom art painted on, edible flowers and initials in sugar, the options are endless, this is not your mother’s wedding cake! Wow your guests with a unique and memorable confection.

Destination Wedding Cake Trends of 2021: Wrap it Up and Take it Home

We are loving the trend of pre-packaging personalized dessert treats for wedding guests, combining the cake and the wedding favor into one pretty gift. Decorated sugar cookies, macaroons, or even a selection of authentic Mexican-style candies in a carved wooden box, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Now it’s your turn, tell us your predictions for destination wedding cake trends in 2021! At Villa la Joya we have the “in” with all the Playa del Carmen wedding cake designers, let us know your sweetest dreams and we can help you make them come true. And of course, all with no vendor fees at Villa la Joya! Contact us today and let’s plan a wedding together, you can be the trendsetter!

Playa del Carmen Jewish Wedding at Villa la Joya | Tanya and Vlad

The Playa del Carmen Jewish wedding at Villa la Joya of Tanya and Vlad was so elegant and pretty and full of love, we just ADORED every minute of their big day and we thank the bride and groom for choosing us to host their destination wedding in Mexico. You have got to see all the photos, so much beauty, so many smiles, so much love and joy.

Elegant destination wedding in Playa del Carmen at Villa la Joya

Tanya and Vlad were such a lovely couple, you can see the way they look at one another that they are truly soulmates. Tanya looked like a bride from a magazine in her stunning dress that fit like a glove, her beautiful sparkly hair piece and a sheer flowy veil that made us ooh and ahh. Vlad rocked a fantastic blue tuxedo, super handsome and stylish. The “first look” on the Villa la Joya balcony was priceless, an intimate moment for the bride and groom to share a kiss and a breath together before the ceremony.

Traditional Jewish Wedding Ceremony in Playa del Carmen

Villa la Joya welcomes weddings of all faiths (or none) and we were honored to be part of the Playa del Carmen Jewish wedding ceremony of Tanya and Vlad. The chuppah was bedecked in white, flowy canopy and stunning flowers by Vanessa Jaimes floral design. The couple exchanged vows and gazed into one another’s eyes surrounded by family and dear friends. The shouts of “Mazel Tov!” welcomed and celebrated the newlyweds with joy!

With fairy lights and fireworks, Tanya and Vlad mesmerized the guests with a gorgeous first dance. What a fabulous couple! Everyone enjoyed the dinner under the palm trees with the amazing Playa del Carmen wedding caterers Gourmet Soberanis. The heart-shaped floral arrangement at the sweethearts’ table was a unique touch of beauty. The wedding cake was a piece of ART, Zaida Marcos cake design in Playa del Carmen truly outdid herself, it seemed a shame to cut into it! The guests shared moving and funny speeches and danced the night away, this was a celebration of love we will never forget.

Riviera Maya Wedding at Villa la Joya | Anastasia & Eliot

The Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya of Anastasia and Eliot was our first wedding of 2021 and what a way to kick off the year! Anastasia and Eliot are an inspirational couple, full of love for one another and after a decade together it was our pleasure to host their destination wedding at Villa la Joya Riviera Maya to make it all official.

Perusing the Riviera Maya wedding photos by Moni Adri Photography, you cannot help but be mesmerized by the details, everything about this wedding was just gorgeous! Working together with destination wedding planners Tailor Made Dreams, Anastasia and Eliot transformed Villa la Joya into their personal paradise in soft colors and elegant touches. The circular floral arch was sensational, all the flowers by Pure Love Floral Design were simply beautiful, creating a soft, romantic feeling all around.

Romantic and elegant destination wedding in Riviera Maya at Villa la Joya

Anastasia and Eliot both looked incredible, like models for a wedding magazine shoot. Eliot wore a custom tailored suit in white, light and perfect for a beachside wedding in Mexico. Anastasia took our breath away in her mermaid dress that fit her like a glove, absolutely spectacular and unique! The bride created a personalized groom gift with engraved cufflinks and photo charms of family on a pin to wear them close to his heart, a touching detail.

While it may seem like an elegant fairy tale Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya (it was!) Anastasia and Eliot shared their sense of humor throughout the day, mixing light, love and laughter with elegance. The “first look” surprise for Eliot was his bearded best friend dressed in bridal attire, veil and all! The family and friends from near and far brought their dancing shoes and all their love and support for this beautiful couple.

Cigars, Coconuts and Fireworks at the Riviera Maya wedding of Anastasia and Eliot

We loved all the personal touches of this wedding, the gift from Eliot to the groomsmen was a cigar kit created just for them. Sharing a moment to smoke with his friends at the reception was one of Eliot’s favorite parts of the day, thanking them for all their support. The personalized coconuts were refreshing and adorable. With mariachis, a sunset photo shoot, fireworks and sparklers, the Riviera Maya wedding at Villa la Joya of Anastasia and Eliot goes down in the books as one of our fave weddings ever! We send a huge GRACIAS for choosing Villa la Joya for your extraordinary wedding day.
