Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

International Love: Dami and Angus’ Multicultural Destination Wedding in Mexico

This is a tale of two beautiful weddings, the gorgeous union of Nigerian beauty Dami and her handsome Englishman Angus was an unforgettable day of love, family, and meaningful details! The gardens of Villa la Joya were filled with music and laughter and dancing and a vibe of warmth and love that you could feel in your soul. The blend of wedding traditions from Nigeria, England, and Mexico in this multicultural destination wedding in Mexico was a sensational delight for the family and friends who came to share in the excitement. Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen was happy to host the big day and we are thrilled to share this story of love with you all.

Nigerian wedding in Mexico: African amor and emotional family traditions

We were so happy to welcome Dami and Angus to Villa la Joya and eager to learn all about Nigerian wedding traditions. We asked Dami to tell us about celebrating her African roots and share her thoughts with us.

In our case, we had two weddings, the first was the Nigerian traditional wedding and the second was the White wedding ceremony.

For us Nigerians, the Nigerian wedding is the more important wedding, it symbolizes a culture of respect, honor, family, and in our case the union between our different cultures and the history they both represent.

As my now husband is an Englishman, it was wonderful to see him and his friends dance into the garden and prostrate before my parents to receive their blessings, and it was also beautiful to receive the prayers from his parents on my part too.

I think the most amazing part of this wedding are the Nigerian outfits; these make the day colorful, and the music was Afro beats and on point. Everyone had smiles on their faces as it was the first time many of them had experienced this unique blend of cultures.

We shared Nigerian food during the reception and it was a hit! We also danced and our guests were prepared for spraying money the Nigerian way! The Nigerian cake was delicious too!

We adored every aspect of the Nigerian wedding ceremony, the traditional outfits, the music, and the rituals of the family blessings. The colors and intricate details of the clothing, the feather fans, the tables overflowing with fruit, and at the center of it all the bond between bride and groom. The union of two cultures, two families, and the swaying palms of Playa del Carmen, you’ve got to see all the photos, stunning multicultural wedding in Mexico inspiration!

The White Wedding: Mariachis, roses upon roses and an unforgettable fiesta for all

Part two of Dami and Angus’ Villa la Joya wedding was a traditional white wedding in the garden overlooking the turquoise Mexican Caribbean Sea. Mariachis played a welcome to the ceremony and guests were greeted by an arch of lush white roses and baby’s breath. Dami traded her traditional Nigerian wedding outfit for a white lace bridal gown with a simple and elegant headpiece and veil that framed her gorgeous face perfectly. Groom Angus was handsome in his smart suspenders and rocking the “no socks” look and cool shades. They exchanged vows in a joyous ceremony and were showered in flower petals as they walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

The reception was a dynamic celebration, Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen came alive with the dancing, music and laughter of the warm and loving friends and family of Dami and Angus. Raise a glass of champagne, take a shot of tequila and let the money fly, we loved everything about this multicultural wedding in Mexico!

Why choose Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen for your wedding in Mexico?

We were thrilled to play host and help put together the perfectly unique wedding of Dami and Angus. We asked them why they chose a wedding at Villa la Joya and they kindly shared this with us:

I had actually been searching for 2 weeks for the right place before I found Villa la Joya.  I was very particular about not wanting to get married on the sandy beach but I still hoped to have a view of the beach somewhere.

So when I found Villa la Joya, I knew it was the place. The pictures were stunning, and I could see myself getting married there. I showed my now husband the pictures and he was on board as well and that’s when we decided to go for it.

When we visited the place it was even better than we had expected. Mike the owner was incredible. He shared a lot of wisdom and we had an amazing experience speaking with him. Enrique and the staff welcomed us and made everything easy. I’m so glad I found this gem.

We extend our huge thanks and much gratitude to Dami and Angus for inviting Villa la Joya to host their multicultural wedding in Mexico. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.

The Best Real Wedding Story You’ll Read in 2022: Ashley and Alden’s Emotional Destination Wedding in Playa del Carmen

At Villa la Joya we are blessed to work with incredible love stories every single day. We become immersed in your tales of amor, we cry during your speeches, we are true romantics and we can’t just get enough! The story of Ashley and Alden is one we will never forget, a love story of overcoming obstacles and making dreams come true. Have the tissues ready, this is a tearjerker and it is simply one of the most romantic destination weddings in Playa del Carmen we have ever had the honor to host.

The beginning of something beautiful: From Eastern Washington University to romantic beach vacations in Mexico

How it all began:

Alden and I met when he was recruited to Eastern Washington University to play basketball. I was going to Eastern as well and Alden ended up also getting a scholarship for football, where he helped win the 2012 National Championship. He stayed in Spokane after college and that is where our relationship blossomed.

Why did you choose a wedding in Mexico?

We love Mexico. It is one of our favorite places to vacation. We got engaged during peek covid times and we thought what better way to get married than in our favorite place (Mexico.) It gave our guests something to look forward to after being stuck inside for so long. We had never been to Cancun, only Cabo. But Cancun took our breath away and is now our “go-to” going forward for vacation.

Overcoming the odds to stand at the altar: Emotional moments reveal the power of love

Love is magic, it heals, it overcomes the odds and it brings light to all of our lives. The power of love shone through in the Playa del Carmen wedding ceremony of Ashely and Alden at Villa la Joya.

The whole day was an emotional rollercoaster, for us, our guests and our family. 5 years ago Alden was a victim of a crime where he was shot 11 times. The doctors gave him a 4% chance of ever walking again. Alden was left wheelchair bound and it rocked all of our worlds. With a ton of practice and determination Alden knew he would stand at the altar. So, the day of our wedding Alden was able to stand at the altar and walk down the aisle. I do not think there was a dry eye in the venue at that time. He also got to stand for our first dance, it was the most magical day of our lives.

This was truly one of the most emotional wedding ceremonies we have had the joy of hosting at Villa la Joya. The moment Alden stood at the altar to declare his forever love to Ashley is something we will never, ever forget. Love is magic, love is powerful, love heals and love makes the world go round.

Stunning style and details at the destination wedding of Ashley and Alden

Why did you choose Villa La Joya for your destination wedding in Playa del Carmen?

We knew we wanted a private venue to make it more personal. Nothing had really caught our eye. We researched and researched and when we saw Villa La Joya we knew it was our venue. The endless options to make our wedding show our personal style, the breathtaking views, and honestly the venue itself is STUNNING. You pull up to the villa and you feel like you are in a dream. There is nothing like Villa La Joya and I wish I could do that day over and over

Apart from the magical love story, Ashley and Alden’s wedding was absolutely gorgeous! Elegant and stylish, every detail was simply perfect. We LOVED the cover over the pool, the dried flowers, the cake, the decor, it was a wedding straight from a bridal magazine.

What would you change about your Playa del Carmen wedding day?

I wouldn’t have changed anything, to be honest. It was a perfect day for me. My advice to future brides is to soak up every moment of your day, it goes by fast. Do not sweat the little things, there will always be a few hiccups the day of. Most importantly remember why you are there and how blessed you are to have so much love surrounding you two that day.

Muchas gracias to Ashley and Alden, thank you for inspiring us with your love story

We are grateful to Ashley and Alden for choosing Villa La Joya for your destination wedding in Mexico. We are truly moved and changed by your story and inspired by your love. We wish you both all the best for a life of happiness and joy!

Playa del Carmen Wedding at Villa la Joya: Thiago and Stephanie’s Passport to Love

A Playa del Carmen wedding at Villa la Joya was the perfect way for Thiago and Stephanie to unite their families from Brazil and the USA for a joyous celebration. Working together with Joyce from Dream Weddings Riviera Maya and the best wedding vendors in Playa del Carmen, Villa la Joya was honored to host this elegant and beautiful wedding and welcome their families and friends from near and far.

“We picked Mexico because ever since I first travelled there I can’t stop going back. I don’t typically go back to places I’ve visited because there are so many other places to visit and see but Mexico has a way of making you come back. It’s affordable, easy to navigate and is halfway between our friends and family in Brazil and the US. The beaches are great and the food is awesome and the diving is even better.”

The bride and groom enjoyed “getting ready” time in the company of their wedding party with champagne toasts, warm hugs and a few last-minute adjustments to the “pooch of honor” tuxedo. Little Nacho was a giant part of Stephanie’s life from the age of 14, living with her all over the world, of course, he was going to be a part of the wedding.

Stephanie told us that she wanted a Villa la Joya wedding for a chance of getting photos on our sweeping marble staircase. The fine folks at Sea & Love Wedding Photographers did a stunning portrait session on the stairs and in the hallways with the natural beauty of Stephanie shining through. Her hair and makeup by Sarah Garnier were flawless and the way Thiago’s face lit up for the “first look” was delightful. The reaction of Stephanie’s father upon seeing the bride was unforgettable, there really are no words to describe that kind of genuine emotion.

Playa del Carmen Wedding Ceremony at Villa la Joya: Ocean Breezes and a Whole Lot of Amor

The Villa la Joya garden wedding by the sea was simple and elegant, the arch of green palms blowing in the breeze and the blue of the ocean a perfect backdrop. Thiago was dashing in his blue suit and the bridesmaids wore rich green halter style dresses with full length flowing skirts. A very handsome little ring bearer brought his “special briefcase” and Nacho the pooch of honor played his role to perfection. Big thanks to Jardin Floreria for all the beautiful floral arrangements and bouquets! When the knot was tied, a cheer rang out and the newlyweds walked through a shower of flower petals and the love of family and friends.

Thiago and Stephanie’s Villa la Joya Playa del Carmen Wedding Reception

Nothing kicks off a fiesta like a mariachi band and cocktail hour! The bride and groom were welcomed with sparklers and fireworks, a dynamic entrance to their Playa del Carmen wedding reception. The poolside set-up with warm lights and gorgeous table settings was the perfect place to dine on the culinary magic of Gourmet Soberanis. The tables were designated by continent, each guest assigned their own place in the world and the passport to the nights’ events.

The speeches and toasts were full of laughter and tears and happiness for the newlyweds. After cutting the pretty blue wedding cake and tossing the bouquet, the party hit the dance floor and the energy was high! Everyone got their groove on and a great time was had by all, even little Nacho was dancing.

Stunning Greek Orthodox Wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico

Stunning Greek Orthodox Wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico

Stunning Greek Orthodox Wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico

We would like to share a stunning Greek Orthodox Wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico that happened back in November. We were so happy to be a part of Eleni & Nick’s memorable day at Villa La Joya. Just wait until we show you all the details and photos by the amazing Greek photographer George Kossieris.

Let’s go back to 1 year ago, in the fall of 2018. The Newly engaged couple; Eleni and Nick visited Mexico with both their moms and decided that Playa del Carmen was the best choice for their Destination Wedding.

They held their beautiful wedding at the Villa la Joya. Eleni got ready with her mother and bridesmaids at the Condo, where they were being beautified by the professional makeup artists of Sara Tamargo & Team, meanwhile, Nick and his boys got ready at the Presidential Suite in the Grand Hyatt.

The Greek Orthodox Wedding Ceremony

The Greek Orthodox ceremony was held at the elegant entrance of Villa la Joya. We decorated the aisle with a white runner filled with a lot of baby breaths flowers and candles from the sides. During the ceremony, there were a lot of traditional rituals of the Greek wedding ceremony, such as the candles with white ribbons, and the guests were offered the koufeta; sugar-coated almonds.

After the ceremony, all guests were invited to the amazing oceanfront garden for a cocktail hour; they were received with a refreshing signature drink “spicy margarita”  and delighted their ears with the melodies of the saxophone while contemplating the astonishing decoration and flowers around them by Dezibel Event Productions.

The Wedding Reception

The reception was on the terrace at Villa la Joya around the pool with the best ocean view. The priest gave the blessings before the dinner started and Chef Gourmet Soberanis served a delicious 4 course Luxury plated menu.

The guests and the couple took photos at the statement photo wall. Besides that, they enjoyed the amazingly decorated extravagant sweets table by Lluvia de Azucar. Let’s not forget about the surprise fireworks for the groom that the bride organized secretly. Perfect romantic moment for both of them.

The couple brought their Greek DJ (and with the support of the Team of Plugin audiovisuals) all guests enjoyed the night dancing. Another fun, symbolic way to congratulate the couple on their new marriage was the Greek Wedding Dollar Dance.

We are so grateful to Eleni and Nick to be a part of their beautiful Greek Orthodox Wedding. We wish you both all the best and lots of love and happiness.
